Had a dream. Wrote a song.
A few Sacramento-specific references, but, hey, that's where I met the Viking.
I met a Viking at the Fox & Goose
He ordered bangers and mash
He said he had reformed
And wouldn’t plunder anything
He’d tip 20 percent
25 if the service was good.
We walked DOCO and we had a few beers
He killed me at dice
Then it was time for some champagne
We bought a bottle of Krug
He beat his fist on his chest
Held his glass up high
And raised his voice in song
Go anywhere you want to
Don’t wait until the snow melts
Keep loving those who love you
And don’t hurt anyone else
We met my wife and family at the Delta King
Why didn’t it sail
He tried to find the helm
But it was now a restroom
His disappointment was palpable
We disembarked
We hopped a water taxi and he took the wheel
With a gleam in his eye
He put his arm around my waist
And my son on his shoulder
Clutched his symbol of strength
Let out a harkening cry
And led us all in song
Go anywhere you want to
Don’t wait until the snow melts
Keep loving those who love you
And don’t hurt anyone else
Repeat

This is such a positive, empowering song. Anything I say is just nitpicking.
I’d like to hear at least a callback to the word “Viking”. It such a powerful word and think it should be emphasized. (Unless the Viking you’re referring to is just an IKEA employee…)
The music and performance is top notch. A great use of your deep voice!
I know it doesn’t necessarily need it, but I’d be interested in hearing this in a 3/4 waltz. Again, I’d add a bit more on the Viking aspect and make it a bit more of an anthem/drinking song.
Anyway, enough about me, lol.
Excellent song!

Whoa, this is really cool Jeff. The synth string line is awesome. It is catchy in it's own right, and really helps move the verse along well.
I don`t know how you can write such cool verses without a single rhyme. I would never even attempt that, but because of the verse phrasing, it totally works. Impressive!
The whole lyrical story is so unique and compelling, with an inspiring chorus. The chord change halfway through the chorus is killer. Nice work.

Good write: great storytelling, and a perfect setting over the low strings. I'd like to raise a glass with him, myself.

I love the specific references. I don't know anything about them, but I know they're PLACES and having names makes them real, even if I don't know where they are.
Nice work!
