Skirmish prompt: Beginning
Sometimes you can never really go back
V1
we laughed exhausted
at the end of one night
we brought out some wine
before we said good bye
the next thing I knew
I was wanting you….
in a way I had never
felt before
V2
we laid back on the couch
and you fell into my arms
as our lips touched softly
boundaries were disarmed
then next thing I knew
I was loving you…
with passion beyond
my control
C
can we go back
to the beginning
and start all
over again?
can we go back
to the beginning
to be good
loving friends?
can we go back
to a place
we both loved…
or is this the end?
V3
we tried hard to be lovers
but it wasn’t the same
as love we shared before
without jealousy and pain
the next thing I knew
I was leaving you…
with sadness I
couldn’t ignore
C
can we go back
to the beginning
and start all
over again?
can we go back
to the beginning
to be good
loving friends?
can we go back
to a place
we both loved…
or is this the end?
B
we were best friends
for the longest time
why did we crossed the line?
was it fate or was it the wine?
does it matter at this time?
C
can we go back
to the beginning
and start all
over again?
can we go back
to the beginning
to be good
loving friends?
can we go back
to a place
we both loved…
or is this the end?

I'm amazed by how your lyrics always end up being so relatable and evocative, without sounding messy or convoluted. You're so incredibly good at this!

This has a high energy rhythm in the verses then the chorus picks it up even more. Definitely not a slow dance.

Oh, this one feels sad, like that bell can’t be unrung. Nice work capturing the different stages of the relationship and that urge to put it back the way you found it.

Ah yes! That shall we cross the line moment really well captured, very hard to go back. Excellent observational lyric.

Now this is a tearjerker! A question many of us have wondered at certain times in our lives. Once we hit a certain point in a relationship, trying to go back just doesn't work. Some things unfortunately can't be undone... sadly. I used to say it is what it is...but now I just say blah. You've got the true essense of this tale so tightly woven in your lyric. I would love to hear this set to music.

Oh, I feel this one. Sometimes you can go back, sometimes... not so much. Hope it works/worked out!

This is a clear and heartbreaking story, one that many of us know too well. It leaves off on a question, with no resolution to the problem, which intensifies the emotion. Nice response to the skirmish prompt!

Fine story telling as so often is the case with your stuff. Interesting theme too. I nearly blew a long standing friendship by ending up in bed with the person in question. But that was just such a disaster and we ended up laughing our heads off at the absurdity. Luckily, we're still friends nearly fifty years on.
