Feb 2022 indie-pop winter magic magick pagan imbolc nonfawmer-collab
My first successful co-write with my non-musician wife. Writing contributions were 50/50 and the result of a few sessions over the course of February. She's much more of a visual artist and started this off with the album artwork (a stylized snowflake I'd share on here if I could) for an Imbolc-themed (Groundhog Day, Saint Brigid's Day, etc.) single.
Musical reference points were the styles of Papercuts, and Luna. We kept the melody pretty simple, as she's "not a singer," but she handled the vocals takes like a pro. Lyrical inspiration came largely from a list of common snowflake types (stellar dendrites, hollow columns, etc.), and our Magnetic Poetry kits. I used my favorite line for the title.
Through the fernlike stellar dendrites
Underneath the skeletal forms
In the crucible of introspection
The molten year is forged
And it’s cold outside
But the sun still shines
In the prairie frost we will sublimate
As the hollow columns surround
And we take a breath and shield our eyes
Chant the future as a vow. Oh yeah.
And it’s cold outside
But the sun still shines

Lovely. I've got the pieces for an Imbolc song, but it didn't want to come together this FAWM. I'm hoping that I'll be able to do an Ostara song next month!
Lovely singing and instrumenation.

You should never underestimate the power of simple melody. This sounds lovely and husband and wife singing together, that is so romantic.
