Beginning to End - felt like you needed an end to go with the beginning, then I remembered my mom telling me about how when she was a little girl she would sing into the payphone and then open the little swinging door on the change return to see if the Operator had left her a dime for singing so well...
That made me miss the Operators who would help you place Person-to-Person calls.
These lyrics are definitely looking for some music....
Beginning to End
by Nancy Cunningham
Help, please, can you help me place this call?
I might be about to end it all
Get that boy on the line
But tell him I'm just fine
I am just beginning to end it all
Can you tell me why I'd ever choose to fall?
When now I'm about to end it all
Once that boy's on the line
I'll act like I'm just fine
But I am just beginning to end it all
That boy might tell you how he never meant to stray
Why should we believe him anyway?
Well, the prom is coming up, now that it's May
I'm still gonna dump him just not today
Thank you for helping me place that call
I thought I might just end it all
You got that boy got on the line
He made me feel just fine
Now, I'm not beginning to end at all
No, now I'm not beginning to end at all

Because you mentioned the operator in your notes (and in modern times it could be a best friend making the call on a cell phone), once I read the lyrics I was reminded of those cool mini-drama songs of the 60s ("Leader of the Pack," "Last Kiss,"etc.). There could be a video as well as music for this one of yours!
And the lyrics you wrote for my banjo tune (I've been down this road before ...) are right on! Let's collab i 5090.

This is very raw and strong. The lyrics somehow automatically turned into a slow and mourful waltz in my head that breaks apart for the third verse and comes back together for the fourth.

A touching story that turned out ok. I once lived in a small town where all calls went through the operator. No dials on the phones. Our number was 74.

Powerful lyrics, loved the turn around when they've stepped back from that ledge. The bridge section nicely spelled out the why and drew us towards that conclusion. Well done.

Such a clever lyric. There's an intriguing tale being told. It sounds like a happy ending but I am not to sure, there seems to be a bit of insecurity and manipulation in the relationship.

Me too. They just go together. Oh relationships . The best and worst. Oh its a happy end. Nice

I miss the operators!!! What a cute story about your Mom and I am so glad this song turned for the better about "not beginning to end at all." I definitely would love to hear this set to music and hope you do something with it post-FAWM! Superb work on the skirmish!!

Clever write! I really like that phrasing "I am just beginning to end it all" both the beginning/end and "end it all"... I agree the song works without the context, but I'm glad you shared it, because I just love the image of your mom singing to the operator for a hoped reward. I think there's another song in that idea, for sure

You tell such a compelling story in just a few lines! The background of the story helps, but it stands on its own. I love the development of fear that something's going to happen to things being okay. This definitely needs a girl with a guitar on it!
