Feb 2022 space electronica electropop bass vocals breakup song
Lots of love songs are about someone falling in love and having them go out to sea. People watched their beloveds leave, called to the sea. What happens when the call is for another ship? One that won't come back? It's kind of the worst breakup song of breakup songs.
This song explores how it might feel to have someone make that choice and...and be left on the shore. When the ship is headed to Mars, well, she sees red.
(Oh, and a tiny nerd note, the siren reference is for the spot on Mars called Terra Sirenum, which was named for the sirens who were, originally, birds with women's heads.)
Red
I see red
I hope you find something profound
Out in that cold and barren ground
That you choose instead
Of me
I see red.
When I’m out gazing at the sky
And see that planet passing by
I think of how you
Were enthralled
Pulled like a sailor to the
siren’s* call.
Chorus
What of uncharted land right here
Darkness as deep as anywhere
you never could take
pressures below
I should not be surprised you
chose to go……
You said me you loved me by the shore
we’d have the whole world to explore
But you were obsessed
with that ship
One day you just left for a
one-way trip
Like ochre duststorms on the plain
Thoughts of you blind me in my pain
When you stand on
An ancient sea
Do you ever look up and
Think of me?
Red
I see red
I hope you find something profound
Out in that cold and barren ground
That you choose instead
Of me
When I see red.

@metalfoot thank you! The synthpop is exactly what I was aiming for! I plan on some revising as I want to make the verses faster and add a bridge.

What a cool mix of kind of a renaissance tonality to the melody with a very synthpop setting. And cool imagery!
YOU ROCK.

I like the vocal delivery, the lyric and the sounds produced here.
Sounds good!
