A one note melody by accident this time.
I was a soldier
I never went to war
I held you captive
I never locked the door
I knew the key
I freed the beggar who was standing
when he had the chance to run
I feed the only man who hungers
as the prisoner of an empty gun
Free
I built your castle
You never stayed one night
I gave you wings
You never learned to fly
You knew the way
The sky was blacker than the coal
you burn while keeping warm at night
Loud engines shadows on their buildings
Explosions generating light
Free
You built your castle
You stay there every night
You spread your wings & fly away
Fly away
I freed the beggar who was kneeling
when he had the chance to run
I feed the only man who hungers
as the prisoner of an empty gun

This is truly beautiful. I love it, you're very talented.
The contrast between the mainly one note verses (which I would have barely noticed were one note because of the lyrical aspect of the beautiful lyrics) and the more melodic chorus emphasises the contrast between the truly free and the captor.

Glad I could break this zong. Many things to like about this song. Starting with the strong strumming and singing. Nice tenor. The melody is strong, and it is not obvious that it is staying close to one note. Love when you sing "Free." Favorite lyric here is "the prisoner of an empty gun."
