Descent into Dissent started out with the prompt Descent making me think of that painting, and trying to remember that painting, which led me to a meditation on how I thought before their was Google to go look it all up. So I wrote the song without any looking up anything. Oh, and there was going to be a verse about doodling, but I forgot.
Curious to know whether a rhythm comes out in the words on the page....
This was a lot of fun. Thanks for hosting @wacha. Hope your head feels better and your technology reforms.
Descent into Dissent
Nancy Cunningham
Artist descending the staircase
Descending the staircase
Descending the staircase
I dissent
Wait, was it Duchamp, or that guy like Picasso
Before Pablo was really Picasso for real
Oh, Bracques, it was Bracques
Spoken: It wasn't Bracques
Artist descending the staircase
Descending the staircase
Descending the staircase
I dissent
Well, Ruth Bader Ginsburg did like to dissent
Maybe let's give her a try
It wasn't Marshall, and it wasn't O'Connor
Spoken: Who else is left
Jurist descending the staircase
Descending the staircase
Descending the staircase
I dissent
Valentine's day is almost upon us
Flowers are dirigeur
Daisies daffadowndillies and roses
Spoken: How 'bout this store
Florist descending the staircase
Descending the staircase
Descending the staircase
I dissent
There was that play that unravelled backwards
A mystery from front to back to back
Now what was it called, I saw it in college
Spoken: Hey, wasn't it
Artist descending the staircase
Descending the staircase
Descending the staircase
I dissent
Hey, Escher did stairs and he was an artist
What's to say it wasn't him
Angels and devils and black bats and doves
That artist could 'a slipped in
Artist descending the staircase
Descending the staircase
Descending the staircase
I dissent
It wasn't Picasso, it sure wasn't Escher
It wasn't Ruth Ginsburg or Bracques
I doubt that it was some anonymous florist
But that doesn't rule out duChamp
Artist descending the staircase
Descending the staircase
Descending the staircase
I dissent
Back before Google, God, what did we do
Hey, now, back then, we could say it was you
Before Google that's what we'd do
You're the artist descending the staircase
Descending the staircase
Descending the staircase
I dissent

this packs a lot of references into one lyric - i like how natural it flows, some good ideas like the spoken parts, and the repetition of the descent down the stairs, with slight changes to a few words, kept this interesting to the end. one to puzzle over with the last two sections, prompts me to think and allow myself to walk away and think on what the meaning could be in all of this. i like the approach you took to this, and now it will stick in my mind as a well written and inquisitive piece for me to enjoy :)

Very intriguing. I have a love/hate relationship with Google. It can be a killer of conversation because the answer can be found in seconds.
This flows nicely. A wonderful isea for the prompt.

This develops in a really unexpected and charming way. Plenty to say and interesting too.

Interesting series of thoughts and images. I find the chorus, or refrain section quite interesting sonically and rhythmically.

A fine exercise in stream of consciousness song writing
I believe it was indeed Mr "Of the Field" who painted that one.

hahahaha RBG is something of a hero around our house but I like the idea of "you are the artist descending the staircase" and dissent in art. We definitely need more of that.

Nice play on words! Some marvellous lines in here Nancy, particularly "before Pablo was really Picasso for real" and "I doubt that it was some anonymous florist/but that doesn't rule out DuChamp". Good work!
