EDIT: I had to re-release this as I realised I messed up the whispers.
I had such a blast making this one, bit of pop-country vibes going on. Also, MY 14th SONG! You guys are awesome, FAWM is awesome, I have had the absolute best time!
V1
I’m riding that train to the valley of my birth
I’m looking to find my way home
I’ve been on the move so much since the day I left
Staking claim to a life of my own
I’m riding that train to the heart of the tracks
Where they all converge as one
And soon I’ll arrive and let my soul be revived
In the waters from whence I belonged
CHORUS
I’m following that train
Travelling homeward once again
To feel the embrace of my kin
I’m rolling down the tracks
With the knapsack on my back
To renew myself from within
V2
I’m sailing home on the steel and wheels
Cutting a path cross the land
Gonna rest my head in the peaceful place
On the pillow where my dreams began
I’m well on my way to the sacred nest
Where my pain and suffering ease
The getting is slow but a steady stride
Will deliver me in one piece
CHORUS
I’m following that train
Travelling homeward once again
To feel the embrace of my kin
I’m rolling down the tracks
With the knapsack on my back
To renew myself from within
BRIDGE
Follow the train follow the train follow the train back home
CHORUS
I’m following that train
Travelling homeward once again
To feel the embrace of my kin
I’m rolling down the tracks
With the knapsack on my back
To renew myself from within

Nothing better than a train song and this is a great train song. Love that rhythm and the lyrics are worth the trip. Such an optimistic going home song with that wistfulness in the bridge too, that makes me hope the singer’s gonna find what he’s after. Great work.

That intro is incredible - it's a perfect case study in the role that lyrics and vocals can play as instruments in their own right as part of a musical composition. The song has tremendous rhythm and momentum, as befits the subject, and the various puffs, chuffs and toots built into the vocal elements are cleverly done (oooooh). The words have a wonderful tumbling assonance, and the theme is so lively and optimistic and it's impossible not to immediately climb on board with this journey and follow it until the end (of the song, at least).

You got seriously skills as lyricist. I never come up with this idea and stick to the image of trains through the whole song. Loved that uuhuuuh and the vocal layering in the bridge. #tit4tat

I wouldn't have thought to start with whispers for a train song, but it works. Nice rhythm, and I like the chorus a lot. It's so wonderful to have kin that help renew a person, everybody should have that!
Good song.

Fun write! The weary traveler returns is a great theme: been popular since at least the Odyssey. The various elements of train vibe make this a blast to listen to.
And congrats o the win!

Tit4tat Yeah the whispers have it! Perfect intro to the uke! Great fun song. This could get played anytime and get a smile. The music has a lovely sway to it! You just want to sing along. Ooooo i am! Im following that train. Here we go!

Oh I am glad you did - those whispers are the perfect intro - just love what you did there. Your uke and keys keep the train theme going, along with the train "whistles". The breezy vocals and cool harmonies sound so good. The bridge is a lovely small departure and stands out in the best way. I appreciate the slightly different vocal style you used on the "follow the train" lines. The outro is perfect - complete with the brakes hissing!!! Great lyrics, love the theme - so well executed. This song would resonate with your contemporaries but I think kids would love it also. Congrats on your 14th song Nate. So glad I got to know you a bit this FAWM and collaborate. You rock!!

You are the bomb! You killed it this FAWM. Congrats on 14 and this awesome song being a worthy capstone. Love this tune. Your lyrical writing abilities are impressive, as are your musical sensitivities as far as composition and performance. Versatile fella for sure…Impressive!

Yay!! Well done, Nate. You should be thoroughly proud of your month’s work, some awesome songs brought into the world. This one is as much fun to listen to as it was to make. Love the way you set up the rhythm with that whispered ‘follow the train’ at the start. The bass notes on the piano really help it gambol along. Love the train whistles. It’s got a very valedictory, closing song kind of vibe. Kind of hoping you can squeeze one or two more out though :)
