Skirmish Topic: War and Peace
An ultra rare non-joke song from me. To be honest, anytime I sing on a "serious" topic -- as the current world situation definitely is -- I feel like I'm trivializing it. Real suffering deserves more respect than a stupid 60 minute song from me. But music is an outlet for me (as for many of us), so I will allow myself to rage a bit within the safe and sympathetic confines of the FAWM space, even though my trite lyrical platitudes embarrass me.
I'm going to go donate money to Doctors Without Borders right now. At least that way I'm actually doing *something.*
On an inconsequential note, the vocals sound a bit odd because I was basically whispering so as not to wake up still-sleeping family members.
Why can’t everyone agree
That war is bad for you and me
It seems pretty clear to see
That war is bad for you and me
Why can’t everyone live in peace
Why can’t all this hatred cease
Why can’t darkness go away
Why can’t everyone live today
Why can’t everyone admit
That all this war is total shit
Is there anything I can do
When so many people are stipid here too?
Why can’t everyone agree
That war is bad for you and me
It seems pretty clear to see
That war is bad for you and me

Great. The simple questions really point out how fundamentally wrong war is. It really should be obvious... And punk rock, yeah!

I like that punky feel, and I think there's something about the way that you present it that makes it easy for the listener to stick with the message instead of turning the channel.

Brilliant!
@robynmackenzie Feb 2022
Yes, this. That punky instrumentation is perfect for the subject, and the lyrics really resonate. War is bullshit.

Enjoyed this driving beat. Lyrics are to the point and effective. Well written.
@caseewilson Feb 2022
Great write - punchy music echoing the frustration in the lyrics about the uselessness of the war, plus the production is top notch!
@chroes Feb 2022
Solid message for sure. This could be an awesome punk song with some more aggressive screaming - at least that's how I feel about the current situation...

I like that this is a series of very simple statements, because the idea that you shouldn’t wage war that will result in untold bloodshed should be a pretty basic human fundamental. And it makes the actions of those who choose war all the more obviously egregious. Also you got a full production in, well done!
@cindyrella Feb 2022
I wasn't sure what to expect with the lyrics, but this is so effective! Good skirmish!

This is great music. I think it captures the simplicity of many collective thoughts without diving into the complexities that are beyond understanding in some ways. Much easier to go with our gut. I like your vocals on this and the news bits add a weight and depth that take the listener beyond the simplicity of the war is bad mentality to the traumatic realities.

I guess you could say you've trivialized the issue. On the other hand, you've hit on a sentiment that seems obvious and important in a sort of "from the mouths of babes" kind of way.
Speaking of funny songs. I've had that song about what to eat stuck in my head these last few days. I love the bovine placidity of the guy asking the question and the mounting exasperation of the other guy. I played it for my wife and kid and we all had a good laugh
