They shut down the paper mill just last May
Now this whole town have lost its way
Without a job I’m left to walk the streets
These times are tough just to make ends meet
When you’re a man
When you’re a man
This neighborhood’s shady and the cops close an eye
I’ve tried to stay on the other side
But late at night when the money changes hands
Sometimes it easier going along than taking a stand
When you’re a man
When you’re a man
There’s something eating me deep inside
In that place that we all go to hide
I don’t expect you to understand
What it’s like to be a man
What it means to be a man
My father worked that mill, my grand-dad too
I always thought that’s what you’re supposed to do
Sometimes I wonder now, what’s left for me
But what I really want is just to believe
I’m still a man
I’m still a man

it's got a kind of gritty sad sound that i really like. this song really captures that trap of the expectations of being a man wanting something different in a run down place.

Great song, great writing and performance. Wow there’s some serious talent on FAWM and you’re one of them! I felt like you were really speaking as ‘every man’. So truthful and heartfelt. It instantly made me empathise. Wonderful stuff.
