Feb 2022 person-with-guitar acoustic-one-take collab
@elesimo: I was looking for more collabs to do and @mikeskliar reached out to me with this beautiful lyric. As soon as I read it I could hear the song in my head, so I grabbed the guitar and recorded it in a single take.
Mike-- So I had heard @elesimo's song where he uses four different languages, one on each track of a four track cassette, and thought about words that can't really be translated into other languages- started writing this lyric and sent it to him- he composed some great music and did such an emotionally moving and wonderful performance here, its great to hear- hope everyone enjoys it as much as I just did!
Is there a word in your language for that feeling
That has me so happy but reeling
When my heart leaps past the ceiling
What is it you call it
Is there a phrase that conveys the emotion
When my feelings are as big as the ocean
And no movement is a wasted motion
What is it that you call it
If something happens but there’s no name to label
Can we feel it as much as we are able
If something happens but there’s no name to label
Can we feel it as much as we are able
Is there a word when there’s a smile and also a tear
Does that word exist in this hemisphere
If I use another language am I making it clear
What is it that we call it
If something happens but there’s no name to label
Can we feel it as much as we are able
If something happens but there’s no name to label
Can we feel it as much as we are able
Is there a word when there’s a smile and also a tear
Does that word exist in this hemisphere
If I use another language am I making it clear
What is it that we call it

love elesimo's elasticated emotion in his rendition of mike's contemplation on language. song is a gift to all of us in search of the right word.

This is so beautiful. Yes, emotions are so much bigger than words. Very touching in words and performance. Very nice collab!

What a great combination of your talents - so much more than the sum of its parts, and really touching.

So very sweet, and conceptual, though isn’t that word called love (in all languages)? I always enjoy @mikeskliar’s lyrics but elesimo really does bring something special and tender to them. Nice job you two!
@andygetch Feb 2022
Wow this is beautifully sung and played. A fascinating lyrical wondering about words in other languages that English does not include. Super collab!
@jtsteam Feb 2022
Great lyrics, and nicely set to music. So many of these emotions that I can recognise but don't know the words for. Nicely observed. Great collaboration.

Really enjoyed this delicate singing of a delicate lyric conceit. The nuance in the singing is very beautiful… and the lyrics are particularly relatable to me. Beautiful…

What a beautiful lyric and then a very pure, simple melody to accompany it. The central conceit of whether we can feel something that has no language or label attached is also genuinely profound. Great collab!

Its always an amazing experience when you hear a lyric of yours set to music and sung by another person (and since I'm usually doing both, that does not happen too often to me). As you can read in the liner notes, I really loved what elesimo did here, a great and open-hearted performance that really gets at the heart of the matter. Enjoyed this greatly, needless to say! thanks!
