Wondrous things in nature inspire one of what I think is humankind most wondrous creations: Stories
Imagination Never Fails
Deirdre M Murphy
F#m7 Em7
Have you looked up at the night sky
F#m7 Em7
And wondered about the lights?
Bm7 Am7
Were they fairies flying high
F#m7 Em7
Or magical lantern lights?
F#m7 Em7
Or ancestors placed up there
F#m7 Em7
Awarded for their deeds
Bm7 Am7
By Gods who didn’t really care
F#m7 Em7
About our human needs?
F#m7 Am7
It’s the human way to wonder
F#m7 Am7
And spin fantastic tales
Bm7 Em7
When we don’t have the numbers
Bm7 F#m7
Our imagination never fails
Now we look up at the night sky
And dream of different lands
Of spaceships or of dragons
Of odd folk with different hands
Our ancestors had their stories
And now we have our own
To think about the glories
Beyond the planet we call home
It’s the human way to wonder
And spin fantastic tales
When we don’t have the numbers
Our imagination never fails

Such a beautifull topic ! There is so many stories about the stars, coming from so many cultures and with so many connexions between the stories... Oddly it never occured to me I could make up my own stories. I owe you this disclosure. And I will remember your "fairies flying high" and your "magical lantern lights" next time I look at the sky.
Autoharp is just perfect to talk about the stars. So etheral...

I really like the story in here.
Our imagination never fails.
That's the truth written in stars.

I agree with all the comments about the autoharp, it sounds great. I'm more used to hearing it playing major chords, these minor sevenths are really lovely to listen to. Good lyrics about imagination and very good singing.

Dreamy song. That autoharp is really cool. (It is hard to keep tuned? I think I read somewhere it could be difficult.) Your voice is fantastic!

The autoharp is perfect for this as it sounds old yet modern, much like the theme in your lyrics about the old and new thoughts while looking at the sky. Really great write here! I know it got me more excited to start seeing images from the new Webb telescope!

The autoharp is perfect for the subject matter here. Something angelic yet earthly about it - it draws our gaze upwards, in tune with the lyrics.
Fitting that a song about imagination should intertwine the fantastic and the futuristic - seeing spaceships and dragons side-by-side is a pleasure. I like the bold vibrato of the vocals - leaves me with the impression of someone standing in an empty auditorium (or the Roman remains thereof) and singing to the vast infinity of the sky itself.
