Part of a concept album where I write a song from the perspective of one of the people in each chapter of the book of Mark.
Mark 14 (Judas)
Am F
It feels like the end’s about to begin
F C
I can see the walls are closing in
C
It’s coming soon I just don’t know when
G
Pretty sure it’s time to pull the pin
Am
Gonna get while the gettings good
F
Too much heat in this neighbourhood
C
It didn’t go how I thought it would
G
It didn’t go how I thought it should
F G Am
I’ll search them out, find what they want
F G Am
I am a closest confidant
F G Am
The information that they need
F G Am G
Can go a long way to satisfy my greed
I’ve been with him from the beginning
You maybe think I wasn’t listening
The masses found his words quite riveting
But I know better what he’s suggesting
What good’s a king who doesn’t fight
Just sits and talks about what’s right
I guess I never saw the light
He never came around like I thought he might
I wonder how he seems to know
As I dip my bread into the bowl
And now it’s time to take my leave
I guess I never truly did believe
I’ll take the coins and point him out
It’s the right move here I have no doubt
We’re getting close so don’t you miss
Betrayed with a kiss

Love that descending riff. This reminds of the Mountain Goats, particularly Songs for Pierre Chuvin. Your take on Judas as a disaffected opportunist is a bit harsh, but definitely works for the song. Strong work
