Feb 2022 old-time slow banjo fiddle trad jazz bluegrass-ish
This song's about my frequent desire to do a whole lotta NOTHING!! N also how that seems very outta fashion in the glorification of busy-ness n stress...
Also in our hemisphere it's summer and I just want a big injection of sweet vitamin D!!
Here's a lovely quote that also inspired: “Your best relief is to realize you are not a god. Nobody says that they are a god, but many people believe that they have the ability of God to control everything around them. Therefore, they regret that things do not happen in the way that they would like.”
A big thanks to the wonderful Tanya for bringing this to life with her banjo, violin and gorgeous harmonies. A wonderful fawmer that I've actually met - I love her music and the style of music she plays so am stoked that she found some time and energy to play on this - THANK-YOU!!
I just wanna sit in the sun
lay like a lizard, get nothing done
watch the flowers dance the breeze
just be, just be
I just wanna waste my time
squander all my minutes
notice I’m alive
I’m not special I’m just ordinary
oh what a sweet relief
the busy police
ask me what have I done
where is your five year plan?
come to church where we’ll meaure your worth
oh stick it to your man
Cos I just wanna sit in the sun
“You do nothing, and nothing is left undone.”
I can’t hold back the tide can’t stop the seas
oh what a sweet relief

Oh this song is straight out of my own souls cry! It is so magical to hear the both of you together. I love this so much!! Beautiful sonic alchemy!! You guys need to do some more together!!! It’s also a beautiful fusion of old time Appalachian with a splash of trad jazz which is a thing I couldn’t imagine until now.

What a great collab! Beautiful lyrics and melodies throughout and I love how tasteful the arrangement is. It would be so easy to really crowd it but it really lets the vocal and harmony lines shine.

Well, this is perfect, isn't it? I got tingles on that lift on 'ordinary'. Your harmonies together in the later sections are wonderful. Beautifully judged banjo and fiddle. I knew Susy was amazing but Tanya's slipped under my radar somehow. Popping you on the watchlist for later.
@adforperu Feb 2022
@susyblue your vocal really shines in this arrangement, dat vibrato. Brilliant elements added from @tan482, your voices go together so well! loling at the 'busy police'. My favourite bit of the whole song is the transition from bridge into that higher register stuff, glorious.

Wonderful arrangement and instrumentation. That banjo and fiddle combine beautifully. Love the lyrics and am totally down with the sentiment! Vocals a highlight, obviously! Lovely collab :-)

ahhh summer. Can't wait for it here. The fiddle and banjo make me feel so cozy and porch hang happy. I feel a similar peaceful vibe here that I felt in the Ella song about just letting go and embracing being where you are. I needed a dose of that today. thank you <3

So lovely… nothing else to say!
@natalie Feb 2022
This song is achingly beautiful! What gorgeous words and harmonies. Love the characterization in "the busy police" bit. A supreme collab ~ and a message we should all be hearing more of (instead of the incessant call to do more in less time!).

What a nice comfortable lyric oh summer days (even Melbourne summer days). That freedom! Music is great . Top collab
@guatecoop Feb 2022
Completely beautiful and lovely. Certainly a sad tinge in there haha, yes, and I really enjoyed the middle part as it moves from there into a very different and fun tone. So cool. Great collaboration.
@richaaaay Feb 2022
That was absolutely wonderful. So glad I listened!

I am all in for a whole bunch of nothing. We need more relaxing and more taking time to appreciate things. There are so many things to make you notice that you are alive, as these lyrics say. SO important to well-being. The lyric and sparse instrumentation are glorious and when you add in the beautiful, slow vocal that takes its time... this just made me smile the whole way through. Wonderful collaboration!

This is delightful! The music, the harmonies, the words, all of it together. And I wholeheartedly agree with your inspirational quote.
