Sometimes friendships are hard to navigate. Sometimes feelings are hard to suppress.
Whenever you want me, I’m yours
If ever you need me, I’m yours
But you’re always looking for a way out
So you don’t have to engage with me
You always have an eye on the nearest escape route
Too busy thinking of an exit strategy
Whenever you want me, I’m yours
If ever you need me, I’m yours
Why do I always feel like an irritant
Some kind of albatross around your neck
Just waiting for you to say you gotta go now
It’s turning me into a nervous wreck
Whenever you want me, I’m yours
If ever you need me, I’m yours
Whenever you want me, I’m yours
If ever you need me, I’m yours

This reminds me of Landscape's "Einstein a Go-Go" (probably the only band in existence who managed to get on Top of the Pops by way of an appearance on Tomorrow's World—and dropping references to not one but two defunct British TV shows is going to date me, I know.)
First rate production on this, much better than the majority of bands back then who were commercially successful could muster. Liked this a lot.

I really like all the different sounds in this '80s feeling soundscape and your very effective, simple, but oh so catchy melody. Great song!
