Skirmish Theme/topic: survival
https://fawm.org/forums/topic/12822/
I've written a couple songs from other perspectives about a fox that has attacked my chickens this fall/winter. Here's a chance for her side of the story!
Recorded in one take, guitar and vocals into one mic. Vocals are a bit quiet, but that's showbiz, baby!
All through the winter snow
the howling wind and the blasting cold
you don’t know the lengths I’ll go
to make sure you don’t know
Push through the brush and ice
waiting for the perfect time
The blanket of a moonless night
will cover up my [crime]
[Chorus]
Because the breaking of another dawn
brings on the hunger that I’m so afraid of
I’m not gonna make it long
Unless I eat prey, love
Maybe you can avoid
but some of us don’t have a choice
This time of year when nothing grows
except my three young boys.
I’ll wait ‘til they’re asleep
’cause they’re too young to have to see
what mama has to do at night
to make sure they can eat
[Chorus]
Because the breaking of another dawn
brings on the hunger that I’m so afraid of
I’m not gonna make it long
Unless I eat prey, love

Nice twist on E.P.L. The main riff is badass.

Eat prey, love — so brilliant! Killer hook. Great performance. Super impressive skirmishing!

There is a certain universality of the lyric in that makes me think of a perpetrator of all sorts of unsolved mysteries. The driving guitar rhythm keeps the story moving forward and supports the restless feel of the lyric. The title is an interesting twist on the well-known Liz Gilbert book.

This is a keeper. Nice licks, interesting melody, and that hook is perfect. I could see myself reading a lot of other meanings into this if I didn't have the context and the lyric sheet.

the eat prey, love slays me.
love that you are taking the perspective of the predator in the situation.
i did the same when a coyote ate my dog when i was a kid. it's the winter - they have to eat - and my dog was hunting in the woods.. you might've inspired me to write a song about it. seemingly effortless performance. great tune. awesome skirmish.

Love the energy of your playing and song. Reminds me a little bit of a song about escaping the chain gang. This could be a theme song for Roald Dahl’s book about the foxes. I think it was called Mr. Fox. I was interested in how surprised I was that the fox turned out to be a Mama not a Daddy. I’m eager to go listen to the rest of your Fox in the Henhouse collection.

There is a lot of energy and a strong focus in this song. A couple of clever phrases put a layer of humor and irony over a story of determination and strategy.

Fantastic word play in this wonderful hook which you develop so well. Love that energy of the strum and strum riff. Strong melody and vocal delivery too. Great song!

Really clever word play with your hook! Giving the fox’s perspective on her chicken raids is very effective (and, under the circumstances, quite generous). Great energy in your guitar-playing, too. Really enjoyed listening!

Fine trip to the other side of the coin. You're showing some real empathy for your nemesis. Good soundin' guitar backup and vocal. Nice work.
@tjeff Feb 2022
Nice guitar strummin' - love the rhythmic playing and the energy! Sounds great.

Killer chord progression! Your singing fits perfectly over the playing. The title is the perfect payoff. Great stuff all around?

The chorus is killer... as is the protagonist. What a great idea to tell a story from a fox's POV.

I have been really enjoying the trials and tribulations of your flock. This is really good and reminds me of Mark Knopfler! Lyrics are great-I love hearing the other side of the coin, and the play on eat, prey/pray, love is awesome. The drive of the guitar strum is a big plus. Well done!

I like your play on "Eat, Pray, Love" and digging into the foxes experience here. I feel like that play really makes the song work on multiple levels.
