I thought about all the different kind of waves, and thought of waves of emigrants, and decided to write a space song.
This was the Cox guitar, in Drop D tuning.
Waves
Deirdre M Murphy
The first wave were explorers
Waving to the cameras
In their newly designed spacesuits
With flags upon their chests
The next wave were engineers
Waving to their families
With bright corporate logos
And performing lots of tests
Waving farewell, they departed
Turning their eyes out to the stars
They bravely faced the vast uncharted
And waved in this new life of ours
And then they sent the space force
Saluting to their Generals
In camo-patterned uniforms
The starfield ones were the best
The next wave were the workers
Waving to their children
Wearing military surplus
And hoping for the best
Waving farewell, they departed
Turning their eyes out to the stars
They bravely faced the vast uncharted
And waved in this new life of ours
The last wave were the refugees
Waving farewell to their homeworld
Hoping their grandkids might return
Though when, they could not guess
And every wave were heroes
Waving hello to our future
All of them became our ancestors
No matter how they dressed
Waving farewell, they departed
Turning their eyes out to the stars
They bravely faced the vast uncharted
And waved in this new life of ours

Very creative uses of "waves." had me thinking as I read the lyrcs. I enjoy the tone and vibrato of your voice too. Really enjoyed listening!
(thanks for commenting on my song too!)

It's very wavy in all meanings :)

Love the clever double meanings of wave and such a nice concept for a song. Like all good sci-fi, it's cool how the lyrics feel like they're very much about the world today.

I like the futuristic comment on current events; the last two verses especially -- "every wave were heroes / waving hello to our future" -- mirroring all the waves of farewell earlier. #tit4tat

This is such a creative idea for a song! I love it :) really atmospheric mix with the lovely finger picking style and reverb on the vocals. The lyrics have a wonderfully hopeful feel which is so nice, I could see this song being written in a very cynical way but those last few stanzas are so sweet. I love the theme of waves of people and each of them waving farewell. Beautiful and very interesting song! #tit4tat

I see all the scenes you write and sing about here so vividly. I can almost hear the crowds, the roar of loading vehicles and generators and various machinery, even the sound of the personnel's boots clanging on the steel loading stairs as the ascend to board.
I like how use wave in the two different ways here.
I was never a kid that dreamed of being an astronaut - always thought it was the coolest job possible, though. But the thought of leaving this planet and going far far away is more and more appealing lol
This stirs that sense of adventure and the intrigue and a slight twinge of uncertainty of the final frontier.

What wonderful story-telling! This is a fantastic response to the skirmish prompt. Very nicely done!
@cindyrella Feb 2022
Such a great way to go with this prompt! So creative and done so well!
@musicsongwriter Feb 2022
Very interesting take on the prompt. A hard subject to write about. You've done a good job.
@keithcuts Feb 2022
Well fleshed out !
You really covered all the bases
Excellent tale told !

This is an entire Heinlein novel in nine verses. Amazing skirmish!
PS I love your triply Irish name. Where did your folks hail from?
@pabrizzer Feb 2022
wow that's a lot of words in an hour - great skirmish response

The narrative flow conveys a feeling of almost a kind of inevitability, the way the song lays it out. It’s funny how you don’t have to pick a specific place to tell this kind of story because it’s pretty universal,

Oh my. I still haven't wrapped my brain around playing in drop-D yet, but it sounds great.
I really love the phrase "faced the vast uncharted"
@ajna1960 Feb 2022
Interestingly different take to the prompt. Love how the story progresses and evolves into a clear resolution, with a positive twist and a moral.
@andygriff Feb 2022
Ooh this is a fine bit of storytelling, well delivered and that Cox sounds great.
