If you leave a comment on this one, please encourage me to write something a bit more cheerful, upbeat, happy, next time! I just need a nudge once in a while!
You’d like to think the end is near
We hover in the atmosphere
Bullets flyin’
It’s been going on so long
You’d like to think we’re hanging on
Don’t feel like dyin’
I remember something you once said
Came from all those books you read
Everything comes in its own time
You seek your way and I’ll seek mine
And the weather’s closing in again
Close your eyes and pretend
That sun is shining
You’d like to think you’ve found a home
But you can’t feel it in your bones
There’s no denying
So we tighten up our guts
Another night in the ruts
But we will fight the good fight
Because we know our cause is right
That battleship will surely sink
And you can think what you’d like to think

It's too late to encourage you to write something cheery during FAWM, as FAWM is over as I write this, but I don't know if I view this (at least as I'm interpreting the lyrics) as downbeat so much as resigned and accepting of fate. And there's a certain peace that can give rise to; at least, that's what I feel listening to your tuneful guitar and poetic words.

Don't feel like dyin'.
The chimes at the end are like a tower clock counting another hour, day, year, spent where one is instead of where one could have been going.
Yeah, I'm liking pondering all the different meanings these lines can have both inside and outside the "nation of two" when bullets hail down.
As instructed, going in search of your subsequent upbeat songs now :-)

I tkink I like!
I like the fingerpicked guitar, it sounds great. i like the fine lyric and the vocal delivery reminds me of one of your bigger influences (you can flip a Coyne to figure which one).

Write something more upbeat. (Ok now that’s done - on to your song). I’m getting Neil young vibes from this - nice picked guitar part that has lots of variety and interest and a characterful voice to sit with it. The ending is unique- I liked that - good job all round

Sounds great, that guitar is very present.
I like the "I remember something" section, that bit says a lot. And "found a home / can't feel it in your bones".
I don't feel like this is a very hopeful song, but I'm right there with you.
