Feb 2022 folk bouzouki singer-songwriter
I'm at a loss for words right now, and didn't want to write something that would seem trite- or "taking advantage of the moment". Also...motivation-It's hard to find. So I went kind of abstract- but. yes, the world does end in this song.
I am also out of my comfort zone playing an instrument (bouzouki) that I'm trying to learn the basics on. I really want to push myself to try things that I might "fail" at.
Peace.
The Wind Takes Me Home by Jessica Graae 2/25/22 All Rights Reserved
Shadows in eyes, from doves that can’t fly.
Fire on the hill, and nothing is still.
And the wind takes me home,
To the sky, in a cloudy dome.
I am free, I am light.
I find my peace in heaven’s night.
Marks on the soul, from moments they stole.
And the wind takes me home,
To the sky, in a cloudy dome.
I am free, I am light.
I find my peace in heaven’s night.
Earth is a dream that I once knew.
All gold and green, with ocean’s blue.
And the wind takes me home,
To the sky, in a cloudy dome.
I am free, I am light.
I find my peace in heaven’s night.

Just heard this one on @calumcarlyle's radio show and had to check what the stringed instrument was. Beautiful stuff and well played. There's something in the lyrics and vocal melodies that just hits me directly in the heartstrings.

So brave to take on a new instrument--yet the bouzouki sounds fine.
The world ends? oh no! Yes I see it in the dream line.
How many times in this universe has that happened before to a beautiful place?

Cool, cool, cool! I don'y know the bouzouki but it gives the song an Eastern European feel, and thus provides a weird connection, perhaps an emotional reaction to the invasion of the Ukraine. I love the musical juxtaposition between the chorus and verses.

I really like the contrasts in this song! And I love the “heaven’s night” image - you always hear about light in heaven but not night - refreshing change! I like the sound of the bouzouki, too! Really nice, Jessica!

Nice work, for an instrument you are just learning! Do keep it up, the sound is very different from just guitar accompaniment. I have a mandola that sounds very similar to this (but is hard to play) and always regret not using it more.
And the song, i mean, no it doesn't sound trite. It's quite n interesting folk song in fact, and yet i don't think we would find lyrics like this in any traditional folk song.

Good lament. Lovely, haunting feel from the bouzouki.
