What's more basic than a I-V-VII-IV progression? This started out as A-E-G-D but I laid down the keyboard parts without recognizing the controller was set at -1. So, now everything's flatted. Easier to sing that way!
The verse changes chords every 2nd measure, the chorus changes every measure.
I was sampling several cable news networks yesterday just to see how each one couched the facts. And I heard that it's the greatest real estate deal ever!
THE OUTRAGE MACHINE
c. 2022 raspberry33 (T Higgins) 2/24/22
V1:
Would you say that things are great?
Or do you hide behind a smile?
All this stress starts to eat at you after a while
Are there glimmers in the dark?
Can your neurons stand the pain?
Are you sure that light ahead is not an oncoming train?
Chorus 1:
Well there’s no excuse when you get the blues
By watching too much cable news
Trust your eyes and ears Not those stoking fears
And looking for the highest ratings
V2: Make a list from one to five
Of what you must have to survive
And let everything else get behind them in line
Whatever’s causing such distress
Doesn’t need to be our mess
Just take care of yourself; and we’ll be fine
Chorus 2:
Open your eyes don’t you realize
The game is eyeballs on a screen
Ratings dent when you compliment
But rise when you demean!
On the Outrage Machine.
Instrumental verse
V3:
How many marbles in the jar?
The crowd is close, but no cigar
Because you were counting on jellybeans
So, Grasshopper you must choose
Entertainment might be news
But only if you want to feel abused
Chorus: (mix of 1 and 2)
There’s no excuse for getting the blues
By watching too much cable news
Let your fingers vote find your lost remote and
Get back to the real world
Open your eyes don’t you realize
You’re supporting the outrage machine
Trust your eyes and ears Not those stoking fears
All to get the highest ratings
Outro - Announcer: Coming up after the break, we diminish, discourage, demoralize, disparage and discover depression. Brought to you by drugs, diapers, donuts, dog food and diet supplements.

The news can give me the blues. It is tough to figure out when enough is enough. Lots of layers going on here. The organ is smooth, and the vocal has a gentleness to it. The guitar gives it punch.

Yes I got the blues when I watch the news. So I decided to dig deep into the rabbihole of FAWM and listening to random zongs. I'm glad to have found such a cool track. The organ tone in the interlude is insane. Or freaking cool?! Never heard this before.
