So this is going to be part of a collaboration with my little brother. He sends me lyrics now and again so I dug some out and this song appeared. I am pushed for time so couldn't do a full production. An acoustic demo is all I can manage.
The title 'Gelert' is from the Welsh legend of Gelert the dog
'In the legend, Llywelyn the Great returns from hunting to find his baby missing, the cradle overturned, and Gelert with a blood-smeared mouth. Believing the dog had savaged the child, Llywelyn draws his sword and kills Gelert. After the dog's dying yelp, Llywelyn hears the cries of the baby, unharmed under the cradle, along with a dead wolf which had attacked the child and been killed by Gelert. Llywelyn is overcome with remorse and buries the dog with great ceremony, but can still hear its dying yelp. After that day, Llywelyn never smiles again.'
Loyalty like glass is broken
We create cruelty
Trust our souls even in their absence
Sharing stories of regret around camp fires
The sun falls down
Will it rise up tomorrow?
Even dogs are capable of forgiveness
Why do we always fall short of the hurdle
Cross legged my ears are taken away
Plant a seed that grows up just to bruise me
We follow all these words
Straight to our holes
Will we ever smile again?
Sharing stories of regret around camp fires
The sun falls down
Will it rise up tomorrow?
Even dogs are capable of forgiveness
Why do we always fall short of the hurdle
Cross legged my ears are taken away
Plant a seed that grows up just to bruise me
Even dogs are capable of forgiveness
Why do we always fall short of the hurdle
Cross legged my ears are taken away
Plant a seed that grows up just to bruise me

This just good song writing all around. It stands on it’s own without full production. Arguably is better for it. Great song. Lyrics are wonderful.

Love the Gelert the Brave story - I wrote a short orchestral tone poem on his story for my A level music (a long time ago now, eek!)
Anyways, this is super - love the sharing stories of regret around the campfire, and the idea that even dogs can forgive!
