Feb 2022 sad girl-with-guitar dark ukraine
Inspired, if that's the right word, by the news today that every single able-bodied man between the ages of 18-60 in Ukraine have been conscripted immediately to fight the Russians. They left their families, their lovers, their businesses, and got onto buses to fight a war knowing they would likely die. I imagined a man who wanted his last good byes to be in his favourite place - a peaceful place. This is just a sketch because my heart broke a little too much to finish it well.
Fuck war.
Rivers of hollow lead
Men march without rhythm
Without a chance now
Empty your pockets and your mind
Say your goodbyes
It might as well be here
Between the ferns
In the nice heat
Little prism wings
Colours everywhere
And it's peaceful
Peaceful
Words sticking in your mouth
The way you held your breath
We'd never be back here
Inside a year
In the butterfly house
And it's peaceful,
It's peaceful.

Super dark and very real subject matter here. It's truly scary and heartbreaking what's going on. I think you captured the ominous mood and overcast solemnness before leaving for war.

Very sad thought, yet, beautifully sad, I am so glad you could put this spin on such a situation and thank you for posting in the Ukraine thread.

That is straight up heartbreaking. Sparse and intense.

Lovely, poignant words which paint an astonishing image. Sombre, intense, quiet, beautiful music. The performance is all the more affecting because of the emotion. Really. Wow.

This is just heartbreaking and it's how I feel too. I' amazed you could even manage to sing it. I'm choking up just listening.
