Doug says: Thanks for the song, Andy! Unusual mix of sounds that I really like, actually makes me think of a sultry summer day in the South.
Andy says:
1st time collab with Doug and I’m delighted how it turned out. On first read, Doug's lyric was immediately enchanting and conjured up all sorts of lovely images. Very grateful to him for entrusting Carolina's wellbeing into my care.
My imagination has Carolina Vanilla, with blonde curls bouncing in the sunshine, beaming to hear a song written especially for her :)
In google land, while looking for this song’s artwork I was led to believe that “it’s a plant found in dry or wet pine barrens from south eastern Virginia to North Carolina, Florida, and Louisiana. “
I'm not convinced, she's out there with the bouncing blonde curls somewhere
The bridge was a challenge – I could hear a snippet of an Oasis song floating around, which I liked but was struggling to figure a chord progression to re-join the rest of the song.
Happily a bit of a waterloo sunset’s rundown decided to pop it’s head in and save the day – so that we ended up with a A#m rundown to G minor, then waterloo’s G major rundown back home.
Really enjoyed working on this song and learned a lot.
Right, on to my last for this year’s FAWM now - another collab, this time with my XTC partner in crime Klaus. Keep your ears peeled - it’s going to be a blinder :)
A little bit sweet
And more, than a little wild
Oh, child
You got me, with one look
Carolina
Carolina Vanilla
I’m hooked
Had locked myself in
Too scared of the world outside
You smiled
And opened all the doors
Carolina
Carolina Vanilla
I’m yours
This life
This life
(This life)
This life’s not a dream
But things are almost, never what they seem
You play with my heart
You twist it and then unwind
My mind
How did I, read you wrong?
Carolina
Carolina Vanilla
I’m gone

Bitter sweet song. The fact that I do a replay means I really like it. It's the sort of song I like, I guess. It's memorable too, I think it's in the vocal melody!

This lyric struck me when I first saw it. Colorful and sensory. Musically, very creative, languid, has a John Lennon vibe to it, for me. Very cool

I like the way you linger on words, the repetition is effective throughout; the drumming hits just right when it comes in. The delays and backing vocals provide a trippy ambience. Sounds like a fun jam around a fire.

This is a super enjoyable song. I Iove the lyrics and the pleasant laid-back vibe of the vocals. It feels like it floats on the music. Nice collab!

These lyrics are very easy to sing and lovely. Great evocative title and a bit of manly vulnerability too done with good taste. I really like how concise the storytelling is and yet there is nothing I miss.
Andy's captivating music floats freely in the air gently like flower seeds in the afternoon summer sun, and with relaxed multitracked vocals, it sounds very innovative and fresh, a little bit jazzy and also psychedelic.
Very good collaboration.
