This song is the result of a mixed bag of emotions, it gets quite dark at times in fact but its something I needed to get written out. A nice mixture of straight to the point, punch in the face lines and some cryptic bits and pieces. It may need a middle eight at some point but I like where it is at the moment.
You pour your heart upon the page and when you launch it from the stage I catch it and I carry it my way
But I’m not one for clarity, so please expect disparity between the way I feel and what I say
And I’m scared to wreck the future, I think the present is the suture that stops my heart from bleeding out
I’d love to let you know I’m falling, but my tongue’s forever stalling and my brain is swimming endlessly in doubt.
If you want to know me why not listen to my songs
They’re a catalogue of heartbreak that we can all just sing along
But all past tenants of my heart have made me anxious of the start of anything that I truly want.
And I’m trying to find the once-worn track but it seems it’s such a long way back to the last time I recognised myself
It seems with every passing day, I’m slipping sliding far away, just fighting not to change to someone else
So if I seem so very distant, I ask you for persistence while I’m waging war against my broken mind
Just know I think of you each day from when I wake to when I lay and it’s the value in myself I cannot find
If you want to know me why not listen to my songs
They’re a catalogue of heartbreak that we can all just sing along
But all past tenants of my heart have made me anxious of the start of anything that I truly want
Of anything that I truly want
Of anything that I truly want

That chorus is gut-wrenching. Other favorite lyric is: "But I’m not one for clarity, so please expect disparity between the way I feel and what I say"

This is a bit different to my ear! Very powerful and compelling. Class build what a fantastic chorus. This is a top class song.

Powerful. You are a master at getting a big full sound out of your guitar. Sounds great and you get some wonderful dynamics out of it too. Layer on top of that platform your smooth emotional vocals belting out some killer lyrics and wow...You get yourself a fantastic song...Well done...Again!

A very nice controlled crescendo to a near miss meltdown! This song exudes heartbreak and solicits empathy. Very nicely done!

Oh wow. ‘They’re a catalogue of heartbreak can we all just sing along’. What a line. What. A. Line. Love the dynamics of this. Feels like it’s very slowly getting more and more intense into the chorus and then your voice really kicks in. Super super song.

You remind me of David Gray.
Love the line "If you want to know me why not listen to my songs
They’re a catalogue of heartbreak that we can all just sing along"

Wow! There's some power in those lines buddy and your vocal delivery makes it soar out. I agree with others about the passion. Excellent song.

This sounds like it was very cathartic to write. Loving these lyrics and particularly the growl you hit at the end of each verse. We do mine some dark places to dig songs out eh. This resonated very strongly with me. I guess if it needs a bridge one will suggest itself along the way!

Seriously vulnerable and emotive lyrics. Really like the chord transitions. Classic catchy Tanner chorus. This was worth waiting for. Love the passion of the vocal in this one.

Mr Tanner - I'm always impressed 'cos you're always impressive. This is amazing musically, vocally and lyrically.

......................... (insert fawning comment here because what else is there to say about a new ST song). I absolutely LOVE the long lyric/melodic lines with the internal rhymes. Really cleverly done. So full of feeling and passion.
