Feb 2022 indie-folk
Quickly written and then recorded on my phone this morning as have a busy day ahead. Apologies for the scrappy guitar playing, and some of the lyrical lines are real tongue-twisters!
Weirdly, I realise now there's a structural lyrical similarity with the song Is This The Day? which I wrote a few days ago, although the subject is different as is the song.
[capo on 1]
F - C - G
Caroline, You were there just for a minute
and then it seemed that you were gone
We could have had a lifetime together
But it might not have lasted that long
I was heading in the wrong direction
And you were heading underground
You always knew your own reflection
I never saw a way to get around
[instrumental]
Caroline, Your beauty it astounded me
Your common sense kept seeping through my pores
You came and told me all the ways you found me
And what awful things we had in store
I picked up pennies from the pavement
You dreamt dreams inside a cloud
We both knew we had to speak in whispers
Our friends thought they heard us speak aloud
Caroline, We're older than we were then
We were never ones who would sit still
Do you believe the youth we had was precious?
Do you believe we ever got our fill?
[instrumental]
Caroline, Your face was like a picture
with cheeks as pink as the morning breeze
The fields we lay in are all gone now
But the wind is still blowing there for me
Those memories are all gone in a moment
Faded pictures from a time before
I remember the way you used to find me
But where we were now I can't recall

There are some great lines in this lyric. The chords and played so well to accompany it. I’m sure with a few more plays you will get your head around the tongue twisters - it’s always the downside to posting a song so soon after writing, but this comes across well

Really digging the guitar playing on this.
love the lines:
I was heading in the wrong direction
And you were heading underground
You always knew your own reflection
I never saw a way to get around...
The fields we lay in are all gone now
But the wind is still blowing there for me
Well done!
