I am up waaayy past my bedtime. I don't know where this one came from but it came fast and easy. Reminds me of some of the tunes @woody would write when he was around here.

Left to my own devices I tend to
C
Talk a lot
G
Think a lot
C
Eat a lot
C
Avoid the things needing done
G G7
in favour of the things I ought not do.
C Cmaj7 Am7 Am7/G Fadd9
These days I find I tend to
C
Walk a lot
G
Think a lot
C
Worry a lot
F
Over things beyond my control
G G7
As if I had any way to make them change
F
It takes energy and time to train
C
The squirrels running round this old brain
G
But I’ve got it all down to a science
F C
Or at least a knack.
C Cmaj7 Am7 Am7/G Fadd9
When you’re near I tend tend to
C
Hug a lot
G
Chat a lot
C
Dream a lot
F
Think a lot less. I guess in
G G7
that way you’re my match And you were definitely a catch

The squirrels running round this old brain
Love this line.
It feels old timey to me, I love the paused "walk a lot, think a lot..."
Nice song!

This would be a great song to sing around the campfire; positive and tuneful and reflective, all stuff that's perfect for late night contemplation during an outdoor camping trip with friends (or with that special friend, given the last stanza). Lots of fun!

What a fun song! Love me a one-take and this is really enjoyable. Thanks for posting
@jaegerin Feb 2022
How nice! I definitely see myself in the first part, haha! I love how the story arcs round so sweetly at the end, too.
@dudachris Feb 2022
This is wonderful! It is good to hear your voice :D

I really like the self-deprecating humor, the combination of warmth and cleverness of the lyrics, and the relaxed way you sing and play. Squirrels running in your brain, I haven't heard that one before. Lovely song and in the end a lovely love song too.

what a wonderful song you've written.
i love the chords in the first line of your verses
and every single a lot part is wonderful.
and the science/knack part made me smile
highly relatable.
if you're gonna have a catch it should be one that makes them feel this way

"One take is all it takes" LOL love that! I enjoyed this tune. It's got a warm and serious but not-so-serious vibe. Nicely done!

At the end of fawm it should be left alone WITH my own devices! Very nicely done this! Cool.

I thin this is very endearing. I really like the chord progression for the first line of each verse and the way you sing along with it. The lyrics are very touching and you gave them a very warm ending.
