Part II: Exodus
Chapter 5 (Continued from https://fawm.org/songs/134853/)
So, the Man sat in his cell reading religious texts from all the tax-exempt religions – you know the ones in marble and gold buildings with rock bands and eighty-foot projection screens so you can see the pastor’s dimples and hair gel. Then he started in on the real religions – the ones that actually dedicate themselves to helping the less fortunate while living modestly. Then he even studied the esoteric writings, like Theosophy and Anthroposophy.
He got his law degree and passed the bar. He volunteered for kitchen duty and library assistant. He came to the aid of his fellow inmates when they were suicidal or in need of legal advice.
Suicide was the leading cause of death in prisons, but the state tried vehemently to stop this from happening as it was apparently humane to imprison huge swaths of the indigent population for minor transgressions, but cruel and unusual to allow them to control their own destinies.
Their tiny, 10x10 worlds were stripped of anything that a desperate person could use to commit hara-kiri. So, the inmates had to resort to creative ways to end it all. One guy did it by stuffing toilet paper down his throat until he suffocated. Another by eating lead paint chips until he became a vegetable. Yet another simply drank four gallons of water in one hour. That'll do pig.
And on any given day, the Man could smell the stench from their Remains.
Danger remains
Just the same in his cell
Freedom pertains
To the sane souls in hell
It’s a fine line
At the time who could tell?
Knowledge compares
To the shares that he sells
Freedom feeds danger
The recently dead
Free from the anger
Whence they once were fed
It’s a fine line
So sublime someone said
Knowledge draws duty
Where leaders have led
But when the door is swung wide
There’s nowhere to hide
Danger remains here…
Danger remains
Free from blame in his cell
Freedom complains
That his name rings a bell
It’s such a crime
That his mind should excel
Knowledge in chains
But still reigns over hell
Danger remains here…

This reminds me of NWOBHM which I really like. Maybe a hint of Priest and Maiden in there although the intro sounds a lot darker, more like thrash metal. I like the vocal rhythm over the chunky guitars and how it goes to a lighter major feel adding a nice dynamic to the song. Just my cup of tea!

This has a cool groove. Really liking the crunchy guitar tone and the sound of your vocals. I might have to check the rest of your concept album when I have the time!
