Feb 2022 banjo folk alternatetuning
The "Haunted Banjo Challenge" got me plucking again, for better or worse (this song does not fit that challenge though). I tried a D tuning for the first time and came up with this tonight. Definitely come back to work on lyrics and melody after FAWM!
Better Days
Filled up on indifference, your table’s strewn with crumbs
To sow your seeds of tragedy, ‘fore the first act’s begun
While you’re waiting round for better days to come
I don’t offer promises, my fighting days are done
Out here planting rainbows, smiling at the sun
While you’re waiting round for better days to come
Bridge:
There’s a beauty in the full moon rising high above the trees
The ballad of the whippoorwill, echoes through the leaves
If you hold onto your secrets until they start to bleed
Into a future we’ll never live to see
Instrumental verse
I don’t want your certainty, I’m better off with none
You can’t claim your dignity behind the barrel of a gun
Just waiting ‘round for better days to come
There’s a hymnal to the morning, a chorus to be sung
It’s here right now, for you to sing, here for everyone
So I’m not waiting round for better days to come
Not waiting round for better days to come

Its not haunting but nice! The only place I listen to banjo music is FAWM. Vocals and harmonica work so well together. Like the bluesy touch. Definately a keeper.
