Feb 2022 fawmd20 psychedelic rock alternate-tuning
My friend gifted me an amazing d20 for my birthday, so I had no excuse not to try the d20 challenge from @ianuarius! It was an interesting process and the song didn't quite turn out how I expected it to. The theme and sub-theme I rolled were "crazy" and "isolation" but I ended up writing some sort of esoteric thing that really only fits by loose association in my head. But hey, it's FAWM.
I wanted to go harder on the "you're flying" parts but it was late and I didn't want to disturb my neighbors. Also there may be some dog collars/loud chewing in the background. Tuning is DADGAF.
And here is Sir Chumberton Wadsworth, Lord of FAWMing, who helped me with this song:
Butterfly
Tell me what you know about being alone
Butterfly
Where do you go that you call home
Thunderstorms
And blizzards they will come and they will go
Will you warn
The others of the swift oncoming snow
And you're flying
Singing bird
You are the north star in the night
Have you heard
The whispers of the long awaited light
'Cause you're flying
Butterfly
Tell me everything you know 'bout dying
Butterfly
Can you hear the people out there crying
Singing bird
The sun is setting in the East
Without words
Everything will sink into the sea
Yeah you're flying
Yeah you're flying

Sir Chumberton Wadsworth, Lord of FAWMing is a beautiful die!
This is a fantastic tune as well, that little synth solo... hell all the synth lines are great I was actually disappointed when that long droney one went away, but was rewarded when they both came back ! Enjoyed this bunches.
@wobbiewobbit Mar 2022
this is smooth as. yeah definitely a psychedelic feel man. really nice arrangement. love the synth solo. great space you have created here, also - nice dice!
@jwhanberry Mar 2022
This is a very strong track start to finish. Good psychedelic feel to it takes me back in time. The flying line jumps out quite nicely. Great work.
@ambroise Mar 2022
What a coll dice ! Is it a butterfly or a dragonfly ? It looks like a pretty graceful dance of wings that can cast a hurrican from a hundred kilometers.
@roblincoln Feb 2022
This one perked me up and calmed me down at same time. Love the rhythm, the guitars, the bass, the vocal. Cool Moogish sound during the lead and end. Great all around.
@robynsdad Feb 2022
Wow, this is soooo good. Back to the psychedelia, it does totally suit you. Production-wise, snare sits in nicely and it all fits together. The only add would be a bit of vibrato wheel for the end of each moog lead.
@klaus Feb 2022
Very well done in every way. Really nice mid-tempo rock groove with splashes of psychedelia in the instrumental breaks and then the strong refrain to lift it up both musically and also in the meaning. Lovely production.
@andrea Feb 2022
I love the atmosphere of the music and vocals. They carry me along these beautiful evocative lyrics. Really nice listen!
@kahlo2013 Feb 2022
This is a really cool song. I love the sound of your vocals especially as they fly into the harmonies. The music creates a wonderful headspace that transports me to a different place and time as if I was flying with the butterfly. Great write and performance!
@odilongreen Feb 2022
That's quite the die indeed! But on to the more important music: as you tagged it, this is psychedelic indeed, a swirling cloud of tasty and at times rock-flavored harmonies and rhythm and ethereal abstraction. The "flying" repetitions are definitely apt, as the listener soars into a strange, colorful world in their own head, if they just close their eyes and surrender to what they're hearing (as I happily did).
@sherrylynnlee Feb 2022
Hauntingly beautiful song ️ The music matches the lyrics’ introspective melancholy so well. I live the vocal treatment too.
@zeekle1998 Feb 2022
Just wow. Great music, lyrics and vocals. A total pleasure to listen to.
@cindyrella Feb 2022
I could have sworn I already commented on this great song, but I don't see it. Love the great vibe. Incredible lyrics and performance!
@chroes Feb 2022
Wow, that is an amazing D20! Incredible!
And a very cool song. Love how you processed the vocals, gives much interest to the whole piece.
The lyrics are stellar! I enjoy this kind of veiled lyrics that are more evocative than descriptive very much. Great song!
@davidtaro Feb 2022
The phaser on your vocal is really cool, sets up that killer psychedelic vibe. Love how you've double tracked and slightly panned them out to intensify the effect. Rest of the production sounds great too, those drums have got real presence and sit so nicely in the mix. I was remembering your Giraffe song the other day - at some stage you'll have to do a collected EP/album with just animal names for titles :)
@paulmilne Feb 2022
I hear a mashup between Mazzy Star and Sheryl Crow. This is amazing work, great way to start my day, thank you so much.
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
A song to submerge into ! Love the gentle psychedelia fell. Oo and that synth Rick Wakeman eat your heart out! A really lovely listen!
@sheilerk Feb 2022
This is wonderful! It takes me to a different time and place. I'm glad I noticed Mike's mention of the headphones, as I'd forgotten. I had to go back and put them on, and I'm so glad I did. Suddenly I could hear so much more of what you intended with the music and vocal effects. I loved it!
@mikegtz Feb 2022
I put my headphones on and wowsa, what a difference. Great work, Robyn and it really sneaks up on you!
@resonut123 Feb 2022
I like the shimmery vibe to this.
The vocal sounds great and the: You're flying chorus Soars!
The lead synth is Trippy and adds a different sonic texture to the tune. Well performed produced and recorded.
@crutherford Feb 2022
Robyn, your songs inspire me. They make me want to tackle my recording gear and figure it out instead of the one takes I do during February. This songs sounds so great. Your vocal effects are so damn cool. The flying sections are otherworldly. Yup. This is awesome.
@standup Feb 2022
I like the trippy vocal sound. The "You're flying" section punctuates things really nicely, the interaction of the vocal, the bass, and guitar. Nice arrangement. Oh, and the lead synth melody is cool, a little rubbery.
I think I do hear the dog, but so subtle. Sounds intentional.
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
I love the vocal effects here. Your voice sounds so beautifully different (and I mean that in the best sense!). And great background instrumentation. Wish I could put a mix like this together!
@sunfire Feb 2022
Enjoying the sounds you produced for this one. Really cool sounding tune! Vocals, music & words.
