#ccwelcome - what would elevate this to publishing ready? do the last two verses work? does it need a bridge? Additional instrumentation?
I really did mean to make this a lighthearted song about rock climbing and/or periods but... it didn't end that way lol.
[Verse 1]
Blood on the walls
Blood on the tracks
leaving pieces of myself
that I won't get back
blood on the floor
blood in my cup
a lifetime of losing
and losing for what
don't know what it means
that they've tied us to this
can I save the Amazon
if I show off my tits
oh, what a question it is
blood in my nails
blood on the screen
always the favorite
in the world's violent dream
blood on the ceiling
blood trickles down
like wealth to the hungry
or wealth to the crown
do you know what it means
that we're rationed to this
would I still be a woman
if I wasn't a bitch
oh, what a sad little world
to bring me to this
blood on the road
blood on the windshield
with death in your sights
give Mary the wheel
blood on the door
blood on the glass
it's a strange little world
to breathe in your last

Love it when the "lighthearted muse" shows up and then takes you for *a ride* instead.
I like the quiet, almost mesmerizing roll of those arpeggios like it's just another day, and yet....
There's a cinematic quality to this for me - I see a heroine walking down a tumbleweedy highway or empty street before getting into a car and driving away. The lyrics leave so much room for imagination.
Glad I found this song.

Powerful lyrics coming hard at the people!
Blood just evokes so many emotions ! Very effective and moving writing and playing

What a powerful lyric you've written, and the form and harmonic language of the song carry it perfectly! This is a poignant statement of our modern times, I feel a strong spiritual connection between this and some other great songs lamenting contemporary misogyny, especially HAIM's "Man from the Magazine" and Ani DiFranco's "Lost Woman Song". Your voice and guitar playing are both so beautiful. This was such a treat to hear, thanks so much for posting!
