Feb 2022 folk ukulele fuc political
I noticed in someone's Twitter bio earlier: "Love music.....waiting for God to fix things". Because that always does the trick doesn't it.
I mentioned this to my partner, who said, "Two boats and a helicopter, pal". And then I couldn't help myself. If you're not familiar with the reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parable_of_the_drowning_man
You may disagree with the message here. You can always respond in the form of a song, but otherwise debates on this topic are always fruitless so I'm not going to engage.
"God will deliver me, He'll keep me afloat
I do not need to be rescued by your boats
Don't need your helicopter, thanks all the same
I have the protection that I need, I'll be okay."
So said the preacher, firm in his faith
Dismissing one more boat before he passed away
Then he asked God why he let him drown
When the waters swept throught the town
And God said
I heard your thoughts and prayers,
When the winds were rough
I sent two boats and a helicopter
Wasn't that enough?
I heard your thoughts and prayers,
When the winds were rough
I sent two boats and a helicopter
Wasn't that enough?
"Another troubled soul, more children dead
If only we could find a way to deal with this threat
No way to prevent another attack
But if we have the weapons we'll be able to fight back"
So people say, firm in their faith
Dismissing every chance to make the problem go away
Then they ask God why he doesn't intervene
When the answer is plain to see
And God says
I heard your thoughts and prayers,
When the winds were rough
I sent two boats and a helicopter
Wasn't that enough?
I heard your thoughts and prayers,
When the winds were rough
I sent two boats and a helicopter
Wasn't that enough?
I heard your thoughts and prayers,
When the winds were rough
I sent two boats and a helicopter
Wasn't that enough?
Two boats and a helicopter
Wasn't that enough?

As a clergyman myself, I firmly believe God works through people and situations to do things more often than not, and so the "two boats and a helicopter" parable has never been in the least bit offensive to me. (Although I've never used it as a sermon illustration!)
Love the bouncy uke tune to sell the good old message to this one!

Man I've not yet met a clergy person who didn't use this story in their preachin' at least once a month. What a jam though! I like the groove of this very much

we're accountable for the message as well as the melody - just saying

Aye this one resonates with me also. I like the upbeat delivery and +1 on the harmonica, almost like it is speaking.

Well sung. I like your melody and that harmonica is a nice touch. I like the lighthearted feel of the music with the heavier message (although I don't think it's TOO heavy.)
I mentioned, I remember this sermon from when I was a teen but I like your message better.
