In light of recent events, this song came to us. There must be a better way; here's hoping that one day we learn from history and stop the destruction...
A pretty rough one-take phone recording. Ash will probably take the lead if we re-record this and we'll add some harmonies. Some of the lyrics need tweaking too, especially in the last verse but we wanted to get this out there anyway.
What is this now I see
This news that's brought to me
There's trouble in the neighbourhood
Take another sip of your cup of tea
There's so much history
Have we learnt nothing it's so plain to see
Tears turning into troubled waters
Will there be a future for us
And our sons and daughters
We can find our strength together
Through the stormy weather
Cos This can't go on forever
We frame a moment so it won't change
In the hope it stays the same
Time still flows while we're stuck in this day
Time to lend a helping hand
It's time we took a stand
Before we desecrate this precious land
Tears turning into troubled waters
Will there be a future for us
And our sons and daughters
We can find our strength together
Through the stormy weather
This can't go on forever
In our dreams
We know the places we should go
But we keep reaping what we sow
It's got to go
This entitled mind
Putting on a show
While the people turn to stone
The sun can shine again
If we learn to make the change
This will never end
It's time to rearrange

I didn‘t sense this as being a phone recording, but it sure felt full of heart. I liked the emotive lyrics and the rhythm. Great chorus as well. Sure, the verses could use some tightening, but it sounds good so far.

This has a very engaging rhythm and melody and manages to be critical and hopeful at the same time in the words. Beautiful guitar and vocals as always. Love the first line of the chorus, as sad as it is.

I really enjoy hearing these rough phone recordings. I can fully hear the potential of this. For me the recording does not detract. With time and polishing some things might change but the bones are all here and they are healthy and well put together. The composition, the awesome guitar and vocals, thoughtful and important lyrics…it’s all here. Great work!

Nicely constructed - the two verse / chorus format works nicely and there is a good contrast between verse and chorus - managed by the upwards lilt in the vocal and the sustained strumming. The performance is really neat, you get the live feeling with the production. In the lyric you say it can’t go on forever - my fear is it can…

This is gorgeous! So timely - and I love the driving intensity of the beat. The chorus is particularly strong, especially "Tears turning into troubled waters/Will there be a future for us/And our sons and daughters." The rhyme scheme in these lyrics is fantastic!

Powerful and emotional lyrics sung with passion against a pulsating rhythm guitar. This is fab!
Gonna Watchlist you so I further explore this month and ensure I get to be told what you're up to next year.

Some really smooth guitar playing in this song. Poignant lyrics ask the questions many are asking, and still give some hope to the future.

I love (or perhaps mourn) how widely applicable this song can be -- the use of details ("take another sip of your cup of tea") ground it and keep it from sounding generic. I like "Tears turning into troubled waters" as a framing for the difficulties, and the various ways you demonstrate the so much history that we keep repeating (and refusing to learn from).

Definitely an appropriate song for the moment. Quite like the slightly jarring combination of perky guitar with the lyric.

I guess this fits with the #songsforukraine tag that's happening. You managed to make a song about war a happy-sounding one whilst wondering if there will be a future for our children. Kind of disconcerting to my brain.....Why would Ash sing the lead on this? Not that I don't like him but is there a particular reason?
@stephentanner Feb 2022
Nice punchy lyrics, catchy foot tapping melody, what's not to love?
@celineellis Feb 2022
That chorus though!! melody, lyric and phrasing is just spot on! there is definite head bobbing rhythm to this one and it really drives it forward well. this will be awesome with the T&R harmonies as well!

Oh, this is a good anthem to fall asleep to. I like the words, the driving rhythm, the singing, all of it. I sure hope you're right that it can't go on forever.

Beautiful timely song.

Just came on to see if anyone had posted a song about events in Ukraine and saw you'd posted. This was a moving song with some powerful lyrics. Love the driving guitar and the way you sing with such earnestness.. like a plea for things to change.. I like some of the positive lyrics Iike find our strength together and the sun can shine again. I've just started reading the diary of Anne Frank with my 10 year old and it feels surreal like history repeating itself. So sad.. Thanks for sharing.
