I wanted to write a song that captured a feeling I had when I was 14, in love for the first time.
At night I would look at the stars from my bed, thinking about the girl I liked. I would often leave through my window in the middle of the night and go for walks, having conversations with the stars, and feeling that the whole universe conspired with me.
I would picture the girl I liked sleeping, and I felt connected to her. And I hoped that while I was walking outside in the middle of the night I would also be visiting her dreams, somehow.
Sometimes it’s late at night
I’m lost in all my thoughts
I take a look outside
And see a million stars
I feel alive
And then I cross my window
Straight into the night
Stepping carefully
On a street that has no name
I feel alive
And I’m surrounded by the fireflies
Dancing stars down from the sky
They light my way as I cross the night
I’m not alone
I feel the cobblestones
Cold against my feet
And take a walk
While the world is still asleep
I feel the love
I make my way
To the street where you live
You’re in your dreams
On a land of peace
I feel the love
And then I think of all the things that I
I want to tell you but I’m too scared
And if I only had the courage
I would say to you:
Hear the song
The universe is playing just for us tonight
Dance with me
Darling, our love can set us free
Hold me through the night
We’re not alone
Can you feel the love?
It’s right here with us
And as the morning sun
Starts to show its light
I head back home
And I leave you in your dreams
I feel the light
And I’m surrounded by the fireflies
Dancing stars down from the sky
They light my way as I cross the night
I’m not alone
I hear the song
The universe is playing just for us tonight
Dance with me
Darling, our love will set us free
Hold me through the night
We’re not alone
Can you feel the love?
It’s right here with us

What a cool sentiment and memory. Those kinds of memories don't go away, which is really interesting. Your words are great and I admire how you can articulate such a memory. You got right into that headspace! This is a really good song and I like how you have been so thoughtful about how to communicate your experience. Well done!

I really like these words.
And I’m surrounded by the fireflies
Dancing stars down from the sky
They light my way as I cross the night
I’m not alone
I feel the cobblestones
Cold against my feet
And take a walk
While the world is still asleep
Very nice.

That went to an unexpected melodic and harmonic place on the alive line. I like the way you start with a suspended chord. I helps build the tension nicely. The chorus is a sweet resolution of the verse. Some great falsetto parts in the bridge. It’s a good song - be interested to see how it develops as you work on it more

The lyric certainly captures the story in the liner notes. The melody and delivery is very dynamic and wow those high notes, all in one take. When listening I pictured that middle 'hear the song....' section as a street serenade. To my ear, the 'fireflies' title adds a visual element that the music dances to.

I like this reconnection with a memory and an earlier person, and the dreamed connection with a dreaming hope of love. I enjoyed the progression here, and the stops on alone. Very full of hope take here. I think you achieved your goal.

I was hearing a lot of teenage angst, and then the chorus came, where it seemed you came into a different space, like the chords showed a little more maturity. I like the "I hear the song" section!
