Feb 2022 folk
This is from my attempts to see the other side of things.
Conspiracy Theories
Mike Delaney, FAWM22-11
It took me a while to see it clearly
They’re taking over our country I love so dearly
They released the virus from a lab to get us controlled
Then came all the mandates – had to do as we’re told
We thought our country was the land of the free
But they turned it into the land of the sheep
We thought the Constitution would protect us
Little did we know, their mind control would infect us
Chorus:
It’s not a conspiracy theory if it’s true
I look out for me; I never trust you
It’s not a warped mind, it’s a condition
If it’s an “awokening”, it’s not sedition
They know my face; It unlocks my phone
They make me wear a mask, even in my home
They have my face and my fingerprints, too
They know everything I buy or do
Track me everywhere by GPS
They save every password I guess
Make me text my phone to log into apps
They know everything I say or do; this is crap!
Chorus
My family and my very life are under attack
Got my DNA from the needle when I’s vaxxed
Every social media post scrutinized, it seems
I know they’ve even stolen my dreams
My TV watches me while I’m at home
They monitor my drugs when I’m on the throne
They say I’m a ruthless school committee attacker
And a cannibalistic pedophile child trafficker
Chorus
Bridge: <shouted>
Just ‘cause I’m paranoid
Doesn’t mean they’re not after me
Chorus

. . . all of which is to say, I think there's a really cool different song you could write with this same concept, that would be a bit more sympathetic to the world view (but nevertheless not necessarily adopt it). But if that's not the song you want to write, this is your song!

I really like the concept -- and wonder if it might be a bit more effective with a slightly less jaunty melody. What I like are parts of verse one that could actually seem sympathetic (you'd have to remove the "they released the virus from a lab" line. Same thing could be true with parts of verse 2. It'd actually be pretty interesting to write the version of this that is actually pretty true -- like 2/3 of verse 2 and 3/4 of verse 1; that could be a really interesting song to try to write.
