ZeCoop: One of my very favorite things about FAWM is collaborating and realizing that a song that I thought was complete and perfect the way it was, was actually just waiting for the perfect addition. In this case, that would be Liz... I am completely floored by what she added. I cannot imagine NOT having the other half of this song now. Liz is amazing to write music with - THANK YOU!!/

@fearlessflight2014 : Collaborating with John is one of my favourite parts of FAWM. Musically our styles are really different so I get to try on different characters and voices when I write with him. It’s especially fun to express emotions like the anger and frustration in this song in a safe place. The dark side to this song is that the kind of people that most get under our skin are those people who flaunt the kinds of flaws that we ourselves struggle to suppress.
Now I’m going to bed!
---
The original (incomplete) instrumental was my (ZeCoop’s) first song of this year's FAWM. All the notes about what I played are here:
https://fawm.org/songs/125603
V1
Running at the mouth
with the greatest ease
Yeah you’re proud of your flaws
you flaunt your disease
You love the sound of your voice
And you won’t give up the spotlight tonight
I'm envious of all your swagger and front
But I’ve heard it enough
I’m gonna be blunt,
Quit humble bragging, tongue wagging, time is lagging
while everyone Is trying to stifle their yawns
I can’t breathe
No relief
Need release
You’re an oxygen thief
V2
You dominate every
inch of the place
Til there’s no air left
like the depths of space
Ego filibustering,
I see you lusting for the buzz
Of the yes men saying yes ma’am
No I didn’t come
for your one girl show
There’s other voices here
I’d like to get to know
So can you take a little breather, step down
Leave the platform for somebody else
'cause I can’t breathe
No relief
Need release
You’re an oxygen thief
As the temperature falls
And the energy drains
And your voice drones on and on and on…
Maybe your mama
didn’t hug you enough
Maybe your daddy was cold
Bad tempered and tough
Now it ‘s time to grow and
let go and stop droning on
try to be polite
The world is not a choir
Born to sing your song
'cause it’s a tired old tune
And the words sound wrong
Ah you’re singing it again
and again and again
Until
I can’t breathe
No relief
Need release
You’re an oxygen thief
As the temperature falls
And the energy drains
And your voice drones on and on and on…

ooh, more zep vibes!
love it when Liz turns up the overdrive and this is such a rich instrumental to rock to!
love the groovy guitars drenched in reverb and I know the lead and the vocal probably wouldn't play the melody together otherwise, but the effect here is really cool.
so is that descending middle section (drones on and on).
wonderful!
@nadine Mar 2022
Glad I found the vocal version of a badass instrumental. I didn't expect to hear @fearlessflight2014 on surf and she rocks! So cool that she used the riff in the phrasing and got real low in the bridge. This is so cool!
@vomvorton Mar 2022
Love the descending sections where the "voice drones on"... what a great match of lyrics and music! Excellent collab!
@crisp1 Mar 2022
What a great collaboration -- cool mix of music and catty but brilliant lyrics and a fantastic vocal delivery. Impossible not to nod knowingly to the words while moving your body to the music.
@elainedimasi Mar 2022
What awesome energy!! Oh how great is the vocal melody on V2. As for song design the way the chorus takes that big breath from where we just were the verse chords and groove , I think it sounds brilliant, really prog, to my ear.
@billwhite51 Mar 2022
this is better than morrisseys 'get off the stage.' splendid vocal navigation through an aggressive rock arrangement that never dominates the lyrics or their delivery.
@audrey Mar 2022
Oh, right off the top I knew I was going to love this. Fabulous main melody too. Fearless Flight, your "musical style" may normally differ a lot from zecoop's, but your vocal is sooo good on this, that I would argue that your musical style defies categorization. Wow! The music is fabulous too. What a package! You two should keep collaborating, maybe even form a band. I can't get enough of this - had to listen three times.
@bradbrubaker Mar 2022
"Ego filibustering" ooooooh, I like that.
The easy flow of the lyrics is quite impressive. Unexpectedly jazzy in a rock tune.
The oh-oo-whoa parts are super cool with the instruments all kicking in. Great, great collab. Downloading.
@guatecoop Mar 2022
Ha, I listened to this one when it was posted and loved it. The song was so cool to begin with--kind of surfy and kind of garage-y and lots of cool twists. Your vocals are so perfect (and I have my suspicions...hehe). The way that you approached the descending lines is so perfect! I really liked that part of the song, but couldn't imagine how a singer would handle that. This is a great collab, as both of you bring your distinct personality but the result is definitely not an independent product--just how it's supposed to be! Very well done.
@kajati Feb 2022
wow, that kinda blew me away.
I can't believe the stuff you find on Fawm, so many of us working away from our homes, making magic happen for a brief moment. Loved your vocal work and melody on this, made a great song better so to speak, well done to both of you.
@mosley Feb 2022
Totally rad collaboration, absolutely jams! I love the turnarounds! Such a cool piece
@kendrakinsey Feb 2022
This is so fun! Ha, I feel this anytime the news is on— I think I avoid this feeling. Love the “on…”s going down, cool dynamic <3
@stevenwesleyguiles Feb 2022
This is freakin' INSPIRING!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE this collab! OMG. That downward chord progression and vocal are riveting!
!!!
All exclamation marks here!
@gilhari Feb 2022
Cool! Wow!
@susyblue Feb 2022
Hell YAS! Great to hear you rocking out Liz - I know it's not your usual style but you sound well at home in this style. Awesome playing and production and songwriting and everything - nailed it you two!
@jacobmorales Feb 2022
I’m loving that breakdown in the “I can’t breathe” section. Pulls you right in. Song is a great punch in the gut. Great work!
@tan482 Feb 2022
I love this! Amazing lyrics that fit perfectly with those rocking guitars. Rock on!
@whispermouse Feb 2022
WOW.
@spingo Feb 2022
(applause)
@abudabard12514 Feb 2022
This roques AND reaulls and frankly. I'm all about it. I would listen to an entire album of this I really would
@danvaillancourt Feb 2022
Nice collab! You two seem to have a great song together each year! Tight backing band with love that very effective dropping down descending part that starts around 140 ...and then builds back up starting with the guitar and then drops with the ending again. Vocals and lyrics are a perfect match for the song. Very impactful.
@gordon Feb 2022
This is really fantastic. Nothing more to say. Excellent collaboration!
@dragondreams Feb 2022
Oh wow!
This has simply blown me away. It feels so "complete". It's polished perfection. I love this!
@spikedirection Feb 2022
Wow! I remember the original and this is a real elevation! It's great when something sounds so poppy but it's brimming with vitriol, it's one of my favourite things.
I'd love to play this on my fawm radio show, either tonight or next week, if I have your permission?
@nicetrip Feb 2022
These are great tones of guitar - crunch chords and fuzz riffing. And I absolutely the vocals. Everything fits each other so well. Great work!
@heuristicsinc Feb 2022
Love the way the guitar and voice meld together at 2:00, that is a great moment. I think you're right, these vocals really make the song that was already good,
@karlsburg25 Feb 2022
Oh i was so hoping to hear some vocals on this. And wohow what an incredible job. This is one of those occassions where i can listen to the instrumental as a whole song, then jump to this and its a completely different song. Bloody awesome you two
@ductapeguy Feb 2022
Wow. That is one amazing collab. It sounds like you are a band that has been together since the 90s.
@fonte Feb 2022
Oh this ROCKS. Absolutely brilliant intro so catchy and iconic feeling. Feels like a bandddd!
@sph Feb 2022
You two rock! Didn't expect Liz in such a song, but it fits so well!
