This song was recorded on a 4-track cassette, one track at a time, in the order below. The tape was mailed to each person, and they each added one track to what they heard on the tape until the song was done.
Tape 18:
1: @mikeskliar - acoustic guitar
2: @drivelmonk - bass guitar
3: @dugganensis - lyrics/vocal, slide guitar
4: @chinacat - drums and mixing
If it seems like I've gone mad
It's only cuz I've met you
And I would be rather sad if you ran away
I bet you would
But we've got to give this thing a shot (bang bang bang)
Here we go whether we're ready or not (yah yah yah)
Chorus:
Let's spend more time together
We'll all be friends next month or year
You'll find that life's much better here
(So much better here)
When I brought you home at first
You stayed inside your cage
Even though it wouldn't hurt
If your explored your new place
I know I should give you plenty of space (meow meow meow)
I just can't wait to see your face (oh kitty)
CHORUS
If I sit here very still
Or casually look away
You might climb the windowsill
Or relax enough to play
I know you've got to take some time to adjust (not just me)
You can hide under the bed if you must (I'll be here)
CHORUS
All your stuff and everything you own (with catnip?)
Here it is. Welcome to your home (what's my name?)

This is fantastic! Everything meshed so well. Good job all!

The chorus melody is so catchy and good, way to sing in that high range. And funny, I didn't realize this was a cat song until i heard the meows. Seems the lyrics could be applied to the FAWM community/experience as well. Except the meows and catnip haha. Instrumentals are super tight, and slide solo completes it. You all are amazing!

Love a cat song, and this one's so sweet and wholesome - not to mention catchy and fun! Really great performances across the board, love that @dugganensis managed to fit in that killer solo as well as the vocal!
@yarimurray Feb 2022
I'm a sucker for cat songs and and this one is so clever and fun. Great performances and mix and like others have noted it sounds so organic as if recorded in the garage on a lazy Saturday afternoon. Bravo everyone!
@elainedimasi Feb 2022
Kudos to the gang for picking up Mike's neat progression and giving it the subversive 60's sweetness it was setting up :-) Really hooky chorus, I love it.
@anthonykapfer666 Feb 2022
really catchy! everyone did a great job. and i love that this was done on a four track. i used to record all my demos on a four track and i remember that tape sound. also i love the meow meows. all around this was great
@jimdgreen Feb 2022
love this, very tight . . could have been recorded in the room.
@siebass Feb 2022
Clever lyrical twist here on the cat theme, ya got me. Everything sounds warm and great, upbeat, solid energy. Great insistent snare and acoustic keep things marching through, bass sewing the tune together. Light playful vocal take and lyrics really suit this one. I'm a sucker for slide guitar. Nice work!
@burrsettles Feb 2022
this has a nice vintage 60s garage pop vibe, in part due to the recording/mixing of course, but also the chords and melody. the echo on the vocals, too! :) fun topic for a song, too! :)
@eargoggle Feb 2022
What a great song, with an added bonus that it was created in this weird way by mailing a tape through the mail! I'm getting a Revolver vibe from it...if the Beatles sang about cats anyway. Love that bass line too.
@jamesstaubes Feb 2022
The vibe of this song fits so well on a 4-track. I like the falsetto on the chorus. This is well done by all.
@elesimo Feb 2022
This is such an amazing song! So cohesive and well mixed, and everyone plays so well together. Sounds like something we would hear on the radio... I really loved this!
@drivelmonk Feb 2022
@mikeskliar @dugganensis @chinacat
Excellent job everyone. This legitimately sounds like we all played this together in a room as a band after a day or practice, coffee, and rain while a few lazy cats slept on top of our amps and whatnots.
Thank you for the awesomely interesting progression, @mikeskliar. @dugganensis your vocals are the best you son of a gun, @chinacat , you made us sound INCREDIBLE. So glued.
@chinacat Feb 2022
@mikeskliar I love the chord progression, perfect way to start the tape.
@drivelmonk Tasty bass line. I really was trying to get it to sit well in the mix, love the space it fills with just 4 tracks
@dugganensis Great lyrics and vocal performance, and amazing lead guitar, totally ties the whole thing together and makes it a great song
You all made me look good, this is the first time I've ever tried recording myself playing the drum kit live, it was a fun challenge (and the weakest performance on the recording).
Really fun process and I have to admit, I really like the song!
@zecoop Feb 2022
What a wonderful song! Really vintage vibe and you all play so well 'together'. that lift in the chorus just forces me to smile. This is such a joyous song and I love the lyrical story (and the fact that it is based on real life). "We'll all be friends next month or year" - truth is you just can't force it with a new pet and that rings so true. Perfect solo that completes the deal. What a great job everyone! This doesn't sound like work - it developed so naturally. :)
@dugganensis Feb 2022
To address the uncredited parts and @nancyrost comment: @drivelmonk added bass. I did vocals and slide guitar. @chinacat must've added drums (they weren't there before!)
Sounds great, guys! I really enjoyed the process and the whole series of pleasant surprises. Even the mail delays added to the fun and danger of collaborating on physical tape, ultimately. I had just gotten two kittens who were scared out of their minds. Update: I'm now best friends with one, and the other is still warming up to me, but we're cool.
@standup Feb 2022
Sounds great, sounds a bit 60’s psych-folk to me. A good story, waiting for acclimation to the new home.
@nancyrost Feb 2022
Ooh, the solo is tasty, didn't expect that! Nice jangly pop about a kitty - what could be better? The backing vocals are sweet and crack me up. I'm going to play this to my new foster cat when he arrives tomorrow.
Who played / sang what on this?
@bachelorb Feb 2022
This turned out great!! I love the pre-chorus and chorus. The whole band sounds like y’all had been practicing this for a while....
@mikeskliar Feb 2022
Wow, this is so much fun. I kicked off this tape with rhythm guitar on track one and it’s wild to hear it now hearing what ended up a wonderful little tale of a certain new kitty, with vocal bass drums and lead guitar. Everybody did a great job here!
@whispermouse Feb 2022
Another great sounding 4-track collab, this one really sounds like a band with the way all the elements blend. Nice mix too! Lyrically, I love the way the second verse casts the first verse in a different light.
Awesome work!
