I started these lyrics last FAWM. I think this was inspired
by a movie, I watched with my wife during purgatorial Hallmark hell duties. The 2 redeeming factors: getting to hang out with my wife, while childishly poo-pooing about the afore-mentioned Hallmark hell, and song inspiration.
I wish it had been anger
That washed across your face
Cause the look of pain that rained there
Is a look I can’t erase
The night cries on my windshield
On the bitter drive back home
The arctic ache your eyes revealed
Chills me to the bone
I know this should be a happy season
But I waited as long as I could
I did it for all the right reasons
Couldn’t love you the way I should
Chorus
Your soul was set
On till death do us part
I tried my best
But didn’t have the heart
Chorus

Nice jazzy feel to the piano chords here. "The night cries on my windshield" is such an evocative phrase. I can see why you returned to it.

Very cool, haunting sound, definitely within Tom Waits territory. Good lyrics and melody, well done!

This is really jazzy! I love how understated and intense your little solo bits are and the swing of the groove is powerful! Your lyrics seem to hit some soft spots just right as well. Love it!
