Feb 2022 indie-folk indie-rock indie singer-songwriter acoustic folk-punk girl-with-guitar
a song inspired by a friend of mine who might have to check himself into a fucking psych ward just to be able to get his meds...gotta love this fucking country
this was stitched together from like 3 different recordings in the voice memos app on my phone and also i know im a terrible singer so like, don't judge me
You called me up today
To say you might be going away.
Inpatient, probably just for a few days
But you'll have no say
You'll probably have to go
Cause your insurance put your meds on hold
So now you're feeling a bit unstable
And you need your medication
It makes me ill
The thought of you being held against your will
By the state or some private corporation
Probably the same one that won't refill your medication
And now they'll make you pay
Thousands of dollars for your stay
In that shitty fucking place
I'm sure they're laughing in your face
always scared the shit out of me
inpatient psych facilities
the only thing i know
is id rather kill myself than have to go
they'll traumatize you more
trapped behind locked doors
held against your will
and just wait until you see the bill
youll never be able to afford the bill

This song was # 1 in my recommendations. Really love the chord changes, espec the minor chord that you end on. Have to agree with everyone here, the voice works perfectly with the theme and the melody. Nice work and hope everything gets better for your friend.

ooh... fun chromaticism with the chord changes here, even appropriate for the darkness of the subject matter. definitely and elliott smith vibe. beautiful but heartbreaking.
no judgement on your voice — although you could try to sing louder? :) i really did have the read the lyrics to follow along!

You did a really nice job with this. The lyrics are really genuine and go well w the the melody. I enjoyed listening:)

Hey nothing wrong with your voice - we all use what we're born with: I really like the chord changes in this, as well as the powerful lyric of course. Great stuff.

Great song! You know, your singing has the right quality for this awful situation.
