y'all there are so many things in the "blender" on this song
1. @abudabard12514 had the prompt "everything's on fire, You should start a podcast!
2. My mom had a phrase for a friend who had been thru a lot "someone who's been to hell and back and knows all the good restaurants
3. Friends from my podcast network wanted to write a song about the end of the world and I was like "listen if we're all going to hell in a hand basket I'm hosting the open mic" and one of my other friends said "and I'll bring snacks"
4. Said friends and I released a podcast episode today about the musical Come From Away and themes of radical hospitality and creating little utopias...
5. Thoughts from the past 2 years
So anyway here's this piano ballad it's a little cliche but I dig it.
It gets super stressful living thru
Major historical events
It’s hard to process it all
I can only make sense of what’s in front of me
History is hard I prefer biography
And if we’re all going to hell in a handbasket
I’ll be hosting the open mic
Like the musicians on the titanic
But with queer poetry
Creating brave spaces for joy and fear
Honoring the stories of whoever is here
If we’re going to hell and back
I’ll sing my songs you bring the snacks
We’ll find the joy that seeps thru the cracks
Of all that is falling a part
If we’re going to hell and back
I’ll sing you bring the snacks
It’s helpful to think
Living thru history
Has always been like this
Like some Roman heard that
Caesar was stabbed and was like
Welp gotta do my laundry
Life just keeps happening
So I write songs, I record conversations
Put them on a podcast
And hope whatever I create reaches someone at the perfect point of their day
If we’re going to hell and back
I’ll sing my songs you bring the snacks
We’ll find the joy that seeps thru the cracks
Of all that is falling a part
If we’re going to hell and back
I’ll sing you bring the snacks
So I go thru life
Giving people mics
Creating stages to play on
And creating time capsules thru writing songs
Making spaces where we can just be
And connect with our humanity
If we’re going to hell and back
I’ll sing my songs you bring the snacks
We’ll find the joy that seeps thru the cracks
Of all that is falling a part
If we’re going to hell and back
I’ll sing you bring the snacks

I am on board regarding the theme and the mode of writing . I like the conversational tone and being open to including a bit of all sorts. Haven’t heard of term ‘radical hospitality’ but will use now I know of it!!
