Well what can i say. I met Natalie on Koh phayam in Thailand in 2017 and what a lucky meet it was to not only meet a kindred spirit, but an incredible musician with the best voice EVER!! . Each year since we've sang, harmonised and more on the tiny magical island. Then last year , not being on the island for the first time since 2017, alas the live performing couldn't happen, But Natalie joined FAWM.
so we collabed last year and am so so grateful we managed it again this year. Its been an amazing gestation with this song. We had the idea during the summer of singing a line into messenger back and forth so we came up with a couple of wee melodies. (i think 1 line each) , then thankfully this FAWM Nat brought it up, so i said just go for it, and she wrote an awesome song. Sent over the vocals and her ipad backing and told me to run with it. So i kept running , grabbed a montage of the amazing @zecoop's drums and whacked out some piano and guitar, then we exchanged vocals back and forth (between thailand and england as you do ;-) ) And voila!!!!
I have hardly altered the mix from the first play through as wanted it to have a LIVE feel.
Natalie you are a superstar, a dear special friend and i thank you for collaborating. Big big hugs to you xxxx
PIC- me and Natalie having brekky on koh phayam. Er i taking the pic ;-)

Once in a lifetime, if we're lucky, we bump into that someone who really gets where we're coming from. Karl has always been so in tune with any musical (or other) idea I've had that it's almost uncanny. I love that we built this fantastic song together, from me humming the first line of the melody into my phone and sending it to him and him responding with a melody for the second line that I would never have dreamed of... to THIS! Karl has a way of taking my ideas and giving them the life they actually wanted when they first came to me. ;D Thank you so much, Karl, for this amazing collaboration, and for being the truly wonderful, unique human being that you are.
And big heartfelt thanks to @zecoop for his incredible drum track, which brings so much presence to this piece and makes it feel electrifyingly live. <3
VERSE 1
NAT
I got a friend his name is Jake
He always makes the same mistakes
He never listens to a single word I say
It makes me wanna give him a shake
KARL
Relax and let that poor man go
He’s gotta work it out on his own
‘Cause if he ain’t ready all the wisdom in the world
Ain’t gonna make him know
CHORUS 1
NAT
You can lead a horse to the riverside
But you can't make it drink
Even if you know just what he needs
He's just gonna do what he damn well think
VERSE 2
KARL
Oh, I got a friend her name is Bess
Her life is a red hot mess
But every time she asks me for a bit of advice
I feel like I’m wasting my breath
NAT
You know, your friend Bess is a classic case
Sayin’ that she wants a change
But deep on down inside she kinda like it that way
So she don’t hear a word you say
CHORUS 2
KARL
You can lead a horse to the riverside
But you can't make it drink
Even though she knows what you said is true
She’s just gonna do what she damn well do
INSTRUMENTAL AND YEAH YEAHS - karl and Nat
CHORUS 3
NAT
You can lead a horse to the riverside
But you can't make it drink
Even if you know just what he needs
He's just gonna do what he damn well think
CHORUS 4
KARL
You can lead a horse to the riverside
But you can't make it drink
Even though she knows what you said is true
She’s just gonna do what she damn well do

Well this is a massive swaggering piece of rock n roll. I love how you don't hold back and go wild with the woos and wails before the last chorus. Pretty much sums up the rowdy nature of this song, and the pair that made it no doubt ;)

This is fabulous. You two are musical soulmates.
I love everything about it.
I love trading off verses too. The harmonies.
Love love love it

Wow, just an amazing work! The alternating duet parts, production, harmonies, instrumentation, absolutely top notch.
@tamsnumber4 Feb 2022
This production is awesome, love the voices, there is some joy in this that we can feel in our soul and that is the job of a work of heart, this rocks off the page and leaves us breathless....everything about this is amazing!
@nicetrip Feb 2022
Love this song. So much movement and emotion!
@davidtaro Feb 2022
Wowzers guys, this is full on awesome!! That boogie woogie piano is sensational, you can’t help but dance to it. And I was getting lovely Stone Roses / Primal Scream vibes with all those swirling funky rocky guitars. Fab vocals from both of you. I love the ‘I’ve got a friend called…’ structure, gives it a very classic touch, and the horse to the water analogy is super strong (there’s a George Harrison / Jools Holland song called Horse To Water which has always been a favourite of mine, so I was already predisposed to like this track too I reckon!). Just top work all round, well done!!
@tukayandryan Feb 2022
Such an awesome vibe to this one. Such brilliant energy and love the shared vocals. Great harmonies. Love this!!
@lowhum Feb 2022
Great boogie, guys! We definitely need more of those, nice skipping in the chorus, or was it?
@chroes Feb 2022
Amazing vocals from both of you! Especially when you're both vocalizing in harmonics, I loved that part. The lyrics are so on point. Very cool rock number, and I enjoyed the percussive layers very much.
@nadine Feb 2022
What a damn cool female voice. It rocks eight from the beginning. And when Karlos voice works so well with her! This sounds like a biiiig live band in the era if stadium rock. Epic!
@jacobeverettwallace Feb 2022
Oh this is so fun!!! LOVE the back and forth! So creative. Awesome write. Awesome melodies. You can hear that energy! I would love to see this live from y'all! Well done!!
@bfwaite Feb 2022
This is amazing!!! The production, your performances, the energy!! Really top rate and makes me feel like I’ve stumbled onto something special.
Also very McCartney-esque.
Wonderful work!
