This was inspired by a story I heard about Olympic medalist, Jaelin Kauf.
No Grit – No Pearl
Mike Delaney, FAWM22-9
Jaelin heads off to Beijing
The mogul mountain awaits
For Olympic competition
No chance she’ll be late
She carries a little box
And hears her mother’s plea
“Remember this my dear”
“Open it before you ski”
She carefully opens the box
Though she’s not a girly girl
It’s beautifully dainty
A necklace with a pearl
She knows the hidden meaning
She’d heard it since a girl
Remembering this message
No grit—no pearl
Chorus:
No Grit – No Pearl
A lesson from an oyster
Triumph over strife
Rise up to the challenge
Struggle is part of life
No Grit – No Pearl
Jaelin fondled the necklace
Right before her race
Shushing down the moguls
And winning second place
A silver medal joined the pearl
She knew to never quit
Remembering her mother/the adage
A pearl is made from grit
Chorus
Though pearls are not my thing
Jaelin’s was a hit
At times life is hard
Had my share of grit
I embrace the struggle
As adversity unfurls
Keep the oyster in mind
Remember, No grit—no pearl

I heard that story, too, Mike. You just inspired me to try an Olympics song of my own, Nice tune!
