I've been reading the wonderful book "A Gentleman In Moscow," and Amor Towles writes about Life as just as relentless as Death, and that Life will eventually find you, whether you like it or not. When I saw Amanda's @ajna1960 prompt, "Life's A Ghost" that passage immediately came to mind. Not sure how it became a bluegrass gospel thing, but it felt right to me.

[SONG NUMBER 8 for FAWM 2022]
The reaper has a sister
She’s dressed in silver robes
And she only wants to find you
Before her brother does
Your path may wind and wander
She doesn’t lose her way
She doesn’t sleep or linger
She knows not night from day
If you let her find you early
Then your soul will never thirst
And you need not fear the reaper
If you’ve met his sister first
She has something to give you
It’s wrapped in golden cloth
You never asked her for it
But she knows that it’s enough
If you let her find you early
Then your soul will never thirst
And you need not fear the reaper
If you’ve met his sister first
She’s a calling in the nighttime
She’s the music and the game
She’s the purpose in your living
She knows your given name
If you let her find you early
Then your soul will never thirst
And you need not fear the reaper
If you’ve met his sister first
The reaper has a sister
A ghost in silver robes
And she’s only wants to find you
Before her brother does

What a cool way to say what I interpret as if you embrace life and welcome your own gifts, then death isn’t a problem. Bluegrassy gospel feels like a great way to set that idea.

This is charming and magical.

A perfect theme for some b-grass gospel. I've never heard this idea before, but I think it's a grand one. Creative take on the prompt, sounds great.

This is a cool song theme. I wish I knew who this sister is. She sounds intriguing. Really great tale and I love the music and vocals that support it. Fantastic skirmish!

I love this! The opening lines are attention-grabbing, and the chorus is just fantastic - “ And you need not fear the reaper If you’ve met his sister first” is a wonderful, positive message. Great skirmishing!

Good take on the prompt and a lovely bit of inspiration. The stye fits the topic really nicely. The line "And you need not fear the reaper If you’ve met his sister first" is really, really good! Very nice skirmishing!

This is a very, very cool take on the prompt, and a wonderful bit of myth making.
@unknownbecky Feb 2022
"you need not fear the reaper if you’ve met his sister first" is a line good enough to stick on a t-shirt. I also love the story of your inspiration here. What a great idea for a song, done really well.

This tells a story in a folky literary kind of way. The high notes in the melody help to call attention to the key words and lines. Fun to listen to.

I don't know the book, but I can see how this imagery would get stuck in your mind. Solid melody too - nice skirmish!
@cindyrella Feb 2022
How creative and so many great lines. Well done skirmish!

Such a clever twist on the prompt, and the usual trope. I LOVE that line " you need not fear the reaper, if you've met his sister first. I love the never thirst reference too!!
Super skirmish!!
