This whole polysemy challenge got me thinking about how loaded the word "mine" is. Out came a breakup song! (It happens to be a true story, but with a very happy ending since I got out and lived to tell the tale.)
And a word about the harmonies: I was told recently to try just ad libbing vocally to see what comes out. I tried that today so you get a little choir of Caitlins on this one. I definitely plan to come back to this and improve upon what I've started, but since I've still got 4 more songs to write in 5 days I'm just going to let this be as-is for now!
You said you were mine
I believed you
But over time
I felt deceived by you
If you were mine
I’d be able to trust you
But you crossed the line
And I just knew
You eroded my trust
The walls came caving in
Where’s my canary
To warn me I’m suffocating
The deeper down the mine shaft
There seems to be no way back out
I don’t trust my instincts
Riddled with self doubt
You said you were mine
I believed you
But over time
I felt deceived by you
If you were mine
I’d be able to trust you
But you crossed the line
And I just knew
Every interaction
Is like walking through a mine field
To ward off the explosions
I’ve gotta keep my eyes peeled
The stress of every step
Seeps into my bones
Will they splinter and shatter
Stepping out into the unknown
You said you were mine
I believed you
But over time
I felt deceived by you
If you were mine
I’d be able to trust you
But you crossed the line
And I just knew

Harmonies are gorgeous. Polysemytastic. The lyrics are massively relatable too.

Wow Caitlin writing a non happy song this FAWM. But its still happy in terms of chord progressions. I'm happy that you tried to ad lib. This works well in this arrangement.
Go go go for the finish line!

I love the doubling on the meanings of Mine and Mine, and the doubled voices. I love that advice about just ad-libbing as a way to generate harmonies.

I love the harmonies! And with the polysemy challenge, they are totally appropriate. The groove here is also really nice, the way the guitars work with the drums. Great job!

Polysemy goodness! Good job!
