My big sister has a knack for wrecking Daddy's cars.
I don't know why he lets her, but she never gets too far.
It isn't that she races them, or drives them to the bars,
But when she brings them back, they look like they've been to the wars.
That tasty little MG, in British Racing Green
Was the sweetest ride you've ever had, I swear.
Until one night she sweet-talked him into loaning her the keys:
Now it looks like a reject from GM's worst year!
My big sister has a knack for wrecking Daddy's cars.
I don't know why he lets her, but she never gets too far.
No matter if they're dandelions, or the rarest cultivars,
Her black thumb oppresses them like serfs under the czars.
Then there was that pickup, so shiny and so clean,
You'd eat off of the bumpers, and take a nap on the hood.
But she took it to the market for some bread, and milk, and beans,
And rolled it like a hula hoop through the brush and the mud.
My big sister has a knack for wrecking Daddy's cars.
I don't know why he lets her, but she never gets too far.
She swears that she can drive, but no matter how yar,
Her lead foot drives them under, like a yacht without its spars.
Two things really puzzle me about this sad tale:
First, how she survives these episodes.
Second, that Daddy hasn't thrown her in jail;
As sheriff, he bears a heavy load....

This is great. You can read between the lines that your narrator feels strongly that there is a lot of favouritism going on in the family :-)
I love the reveal that "Daddy" is the Sheriff.
Whenever my Dad got angry with me he'd remind me that before I was conceived he wanted a Green MG and my Mum wanted a baby and he would say: "I could have had my dream car, if it wasn't for you!" In retirement, he built a kit car that looked just like a 1930s Racer in that same green. And he did love me really... I think.

What a cute and very entertaining tune this is! Ha ha. Funny too. I like your light touch with the guitar and vocal. It suits this song well. Really enjoyed listening.

Is this a song about a personal experience? Its a great story (and my wife has a story of jumping her Dads car over a hump-back bridge in California when she was a teenager, cracked the engine block, and snuck the car back without telling him.... I guess he never figured it out).... anyway, its a fun song!

I really enjoyed this story, especially the twist about Daddy's occupation. Nice guitar and laid-back delivery.

Hmmm, maybe big sister needs glasses? She certainly is talented.
This is a sweet, mischievous tune. Like Burl Ives with a twist.

Nice! MGs looked great but were fabulously unreliable.

My dad's dream car was always an MG in British Racing Green. We had to settle for driving his Chevys over the years - although it was my brother rather than my sisters who added the interesting creases to the bodywork. Nice twist with the sheriff line. By the way, the production is great, and I love how you recorded the vocals - nice resonance and just the right amount of echo.

Really like how you go to the minor chord on that last line of the final chorus before the tag. This is a fun chorus to sing over and over and begs the question : what IS she doing to wreck so many cars one after the other?

This reminds me of a John Prine song, and of how hard I was on my Dad's cars...I like imagining the singer as a thoughtful seven year, examining this situation and shaking his earnest little head.
