Feb 2022 neoclassical soft meditation relaxation instrumental
In the thread "Does anyone meditate?" https://fawm.org/forums/topic/12767 two at least of us indicate that music for us IS the meditation and we get quite lost in it. Given the hours of singleminded intensive practice it takes to become a skilled classical pianist which is what we both are (or in my case , was), that shouldn't be surprising. Still, after reading the thread and adding to it, I sat down at the piano with the MIDI recorder running to, um, demonstrate. Here it is. What did I intend when I sat down? Nothing. What was in my mind? Nothing. What came out? This. Where did it come from? God* knows...

[following is my original comment in the thread, recorded here for, ahem, posterity:
Formal meditation? No. (Other than breathing exercises I was taught to help me go back to rational sleep and shut a racing brain down) But I've always been in @musicsongwriter 's situation, the music itself is the meditation--all those hours and days and years of practice. Very early in our marriage my wife realised that music was a turnoff--any music playing and the focus would be on that. And if I were playing something at the piano, not even a naked nymph wrapping her arms around me could penetrate my consciousness. I'm not quite so singleminded now, and regrettably nymphs are in short supply, but I still lose myself in the music.

hello tim, just wanted to say thank you for sharing this beautiful piece - i can actually feel my breathing slowing down in response to the lightness of your playing...

Very dreamy. It lifts up midway through in both pitch and feeling. Something I find when I do this kind of improvising is that I’ll find rhythms I would have a hard time doing if I planned them out. The way the melody floats on top of the arpeggios with some slight syncopation might be an example of this. Or if you did think that through while playing, that is super impressive to me!

It came from your soul my friend.....it lives and breathes in your soul. Even the Gods* are in awe of it....

I wish I could play continual streams of music like this. I can’t. I have lots of musical knowledge but it has to be segmented for me. I have too much mental block to allow for it to flow uninterrupted for more then a few bars. Great stuff Tim.

it can be very meditative but not always for me! This type most definitely! tis is spot in that place very nice and so restful
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
This is so lovely and calming. Your playing is so sensitive and like a soft caress. Thank you for this gift.

Where the music (and the words, when there are words) come from is one of the great mysteries of life. I'm just grateful they come, as in the case of this beautiful, ahem, meditative piano piece. Thank you, Tim.

Very beautiful, Tim. Just what I was hoping for when I pressed play (after downloading it first just in case you had a sudden change of heart!). Allowing us to follow you as you follow that inner breeze is a real joy.

Truly a meditation in every respect. Nice listen. Great write!

This is really soothing to listen to. I found my thoughts floating along with the spaciousness you created here. I listened at a moment when it was just what I needed too interestingly. Moments of it felt a bit like a studio ghibli soundtrack in a dreamy way.

I love that I've been able to get lost in your meditation. When I read your post on that thread I was nodding in agreement with everything you and Nadia had typed. I love your comment about the nymphs too. I get the same way when the muse gently takes my hand and savagely twists my arm up my back.
Tim, this is a beautiful piece of music. :-)

Ahhh. Makes me sort of float away. So peaceful!

I did indeed find this both meditative and relaxing. Just when I needed to listen to something like this too. Beautifully played and a gorgeous listen. Really lovely.

Oh… so lovely and peaceful. I like the scales you use in this. And the expressive gentle touch on the keys. Really gorgeous as it flows and takes me on a transformative relaxing journey. Thanks for sharing this.
