Newfoundland has a storied history of our life near the sea. Fishermen are widely respected in our culture throughout history for their independence and experience.
Fading Away examines the end of life of one of these men.
Surrounded by all that is created and loved he is lost alone ... behind those eyes
Music and arrangement by: Garry Kirby

Fading Away
He stares into her smiling face
Searching deep within her eyes
So much is now an empty place
Lost slowly in this disguise
She graced his life with subtle class
They called his home their own
Memories made to forever last
His mind turns them all to stone.
Chorus
A fisherman once strong and proud
His thoughts were known as wise
A steady voice in any crowd
Lost alone behind those eyes
Toiling a lifetime on the sea
A weathered strong old man
His hands have shaped his destiny
Quietly staring is all that he can
Walls that now confine him
Once defined by none
Sea and sky, and a steady trim
Fading away into the setting sun

These lyrics are hard hitting and remind me of my grandparents fading away one after another. Beautiful subtle arrangement, I like the tremolo electric guitar add ons. Unfortunately there’s a strong hiss on one of the tracks that disappears with the chorusses.

Powerful writing, delivered with compassion and understanding. I've seen too many people "fade away" thanks to the ravages of Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. It's such a cruel illness. The people you know end up not being there any more.

Nice collaboration. Well-played, interesting music to support the well crafted, melancholy story of a life-well-lived.

Interesting topic for a song - always lots of music associated with fishing. I like the net of textures that you create musically - it’s a rich and haunting soundscape that fits the topic well

I very much enjoyed the romantic (in the classical sense) and sweeping music; it really gives a sense of the grandeur of the open ocean. The weathered and wise vocals tell this story with empathy and compassion; it's a lovely, emotional tale, and one that genuinely touched this listener. Very nice; given how involved it was, I only wish it were a bit longer, maybe a couple more chorus repeats, to rally let me me sink into it even a little bit more!

Ah beautiful acoustic guitar picking, and lovely atmospheric electric guitar. Love the ascending repetitive riff. Great lyrical story telling and the melody works really well with this track, each complimenting the other. Nice balance also and nice collab. #tit4tat

I like the smattering of spacey echo effects. There’s a whole sonic mix of stuff kinda hidden in here that’s all really cool. I hear lots of layers of guitar, and the overlapping of the different arpeggios feels really dreamy. Cool stuff both of you. #tit4tat

Very well constructed, congrats to you both. Loving all those suspended chords. For me the strongest lyrical moment is "once defined by none."
I lived on Long Island (NY) for 20+ years and remember the East End fisherfolk's pride.

Lovely picking pattern. Love the combo of guitars. Great storytelling here. There is a fragility and intimacy within the vocal particularly. Brings home the journey of the fisherman really well as he has gotten older.

Oh I loved this one. Lovely picking, cool instrumentation and the right storytelling voice. Cool lyrics they have a touch of folk.
The only thing that disturbing me a bit is the noise. It's not always there so it comes from one particular microphone or cable.

I feel the pain of that fisherman. Very effective storytelling. Great guitar work going on here. Always appreciate that!

Beautiful guitar work! Respectfully crafted song with a folk style vocal and lyric. A very nice collab.

Nice collab! Excellent storytelling, and a great musical setting to support it. The tremolo guitar is a nice touch.

I love the way this gradually builds on the lovely opening progression. And the whole song has such an intimate feel to it that makes the storytelling all the more powerful. This is a lovely collab. :-)

I can see the landscape and the longing in the lyrics and your presentation. You've really captured the feeling here. Good job.
