Feb 2022 collab karlsburg spokenword
Karl sent me some files of him singing and playing the guitar. He'd had a quick idea that he wanted to get down.
He then sent the files to me, and asked if I could do anything with them.
This is the result.
The lyrics are very rough, off the top of my head, and need some work, but the idea is there.
Thanks Karl! This was a hoot to work on.

this is so awesome. i've been wanting to do something with one of my fav fawmers over years, so i literally had a little acoustic ditty that i liked and sang some bits and bobs over the top and just sent them to the genius of pete and am so chuffed what he's managed to do with this .
thanks heaps again pete. and at last we've done something together. ooo lets do more next time or whenever . wooohooo
Wet Paint
On the kitchen floor
And I don't care if I'm the window or the door
Are you a table or a fucked refrigerator?
Throw all your baggage
In the stupid dumb waiter
It's just a hobby and I love the idea of an uptight bed and a change of career
Maybe I could offer up
A half arsed apology
And burn an effigy of musical ideology
The empty bottle of a beautiful wife
I'm an idiot in the last
Hours of my life
I hope you manage the day
Unheard like
All the others
Who Stole your precious toy
I have once again become the boy

such a catchy groove. the straight rhythm of the lyrics reminded me a bit of 80s stuff. loved this with the organic music. so so catchy - well done both, great collab

Ok, firstly, I frickin' love this! It's quirky and catchy and oodles of fun. The little guitar scales on the right complement the spoken word sections so fabulously, and Karl's nonsense sung choruses had me nodding along. But special mention for the lyrics, Pete. I'm not sure they do need any additional work - sometimes the off the cuff, stream of consciousness stuff is the best, especially for a song that's quite random and playful in spirit like this one. 'The empty bottle of a beautiful wife' is pure poetry, some of the other lines are almost like punk Edward Lear. Great work both. And secondly... well, there never was a secondly in truth. I just frickin' love the song.

Some kooky fun right here! Love the lyrics with the vocal fry weaving with the musical lines - hope you two had fun making this as it was a fun listen!

Ahhh, an excellent groove to hook me in straight from the off. This is bags of fun; Beck vibes!

Big smile here. Loving listening to this. "It's just a hobby and I love the idea of an uptight bed and a change of career" BIG smile here! Did I say that already?
I can totally see The Dandy Warhols digging on this.

Hell ya, this is fun, fabulous wordplay, fantastically groovy
strangely strongly evocative of Zappa.
@gardeningangel1 Feb 2022
The lyrics and vocal layering are delightful nonsense. Musically so wonderful and danceable. Slap on another coat of this weird kooky grooviness!
@jamesstaubes Feb 2022
The vocal chain on this is great. The lo-fi, EQ'd, distorted sound is so cool. Love the keys on the left. What a fun collab from 2 of the most famous FAWMers. :)
@seemanski Feb 2022
This is a hoot, so much fun and full of character, absolutely loved it. Nice one.

Those "nah nah nah" BVs are priceless. In fact this is just stuffed full of catchy things all the way through that have just gone in to my brain and stuck.
It reminds me of one of the first songs that I got obsessed with, 'Stranger in Blue Suede Shoes' by the late, great Kevin Ayers. There's not just a story in it, there's a whole goddamn *movie*...
@dragondreams Feb 2022
This is quite simply brilliant! I can only sit here, tapping along and shaking my head in awe. You two are brilliant together!

Yesss!!! This is awesome. Possibly the unlikeliest catchy song I’ve heard this month. Love the fucked refrigerator line lol
