A song depicting the monotonous nature of daily life and the hope for something more. The cyclical pattern of the song further reflects the repetitive daily routine of modern day life.
I wake up this morning
It might seem the same
But it's never happened before
Coffee in my favourite cup
I listen to the radio
And I dance across the floor
It goes around
And it starts again
To the beat of a drum
To the rhythm of the morning sun
And it's only just begun
I put on my shoes, adjust my hair,
and give the cat a treat
Before I leave my front door
That book I meant to read, keep putting off
Still sitting on the shelf
But later I can read some more
It goes around
And it starts again
To the beat of a drum
To the rhythm of the morning sun
And it's only just begun
I wave to my neighbour Jack
He's retired, I see him every day.
He does his garden, got the best one in his street, won an award last May
On my bike to work
I'm weaving through the traffic, as I make my way
Arriving at the office and not late
There's time to spare, it makes a change
It goes around
And it starts again
To the beat of a drum
To the rhythm of the morning sun
And it's only just begun
Then I do my job, it's not my favourite
But I go there cos it pays the bills
It's just a stepping stone to something more
Where I hope to seek my thrills
It goes around
And it starts again
To the beat of a drum
To the rhythm of the morning sun
And it's only just begun
Life is a roller coaster ride
Life is a roller coaster ride
I clock out after hours cos I'm expecting to get myself some overtime
Do the journey in reverse, returning home
To put my feet up, have a glass of wine
It goes around
And it starts again
To the beat of a drum
To the rhythm of the morning sun
Before it starts again

If only I could start a day like this. Maybe this song helps to be happy right afte waking up. Cause the vocals are so well performed and I enjoy the fast fingerpicking. #tit4tat

This is a great inner monologue. "It's not my favorite but I go there cos it pays the bills" ain't that the truth. I like that "life is a roller coaster ride" even though it seems like it just goes in a circle. The melody and the plucky guitar imbue a sense of contentment alongside a back-of-the-mind desire for more excitement. I find I'm typically of two minds myself; I love adventure and experience, but I equally love kicking my feet up with a glass of wine. It's nice to have the one, even if sometimes we wish for more of the other.

Cor blimey guvna, I fink I need to wash me old lug holes out, you’ve gone all east end! Great tune though. Fun and great guitar part.

I'm looking for happy songs and fired this up before realising I' already fired it up. but that was days ago, before the war. So. Here I am again. What a lovely basic plain ordinary happy song. Thank you!

Sounds like you are from Lahndahn :-) Reminds me a bit of Kate Nash. Lovely little song. Chirpy guitar work. I quite like the routine thing. Kind of nice to hear other people's lives are also not as exciting as their social media wants us to believe.

Oh I dig the picking pattern, and your melody is just pouring like honey over the top of it - so smooth and rich! Such a relatable topic, emphasizing the cycle nature of life, which for me is such a comfort. I love the random things that are a part of your daily life that you include. Really catchy song and a very enjoyable listen.

Great story line with details about daily life. I like the bouncy jazzy verses paired with the laid-back choruses. Nice listen!

Nice write! The play between the routine of life in the lyric and the propulsive verse guitar is hypnotic: nice contrast to the setting of the chorus.

Your day sounds quite nice to me. Routines are base points that we can return to for safety. I liked the pace of the song, the guitar playing, 4 notes in rhythm, before the next step of the way. Enjoyed this listen very much.

You've nailed the cyclical feeling and I love that it's framed from the beginning as "It might seem the same but it's never happened before." The chorus is lovely and I like how the tempo of the last line (in an otherwise slow and deliberate chorus) leads back into the glorious relentlessness of the pace of the verses. This is so creative and so well done!

I’m enjoying these phone recordings. Nice way for me to start my day…again…

Oooo's that Cockernee Sparrer then? Nice idea guys. Love hearing you trying new approaches.

I like how you have reflected the regular humdrum routine in the arrangement keeping things very samey throughout. It made me feel like it was dragging on, just like life does sometimes. This could totally be a song from a show or musical (especially seeing as Rebecca is definitely in character while singing it!)

Right now I needed something happily upbeat and optimistic which this is. So many people seem to be defeated by the daily round but there's so much more and also there's a reassurance in routine, especially when there's more beyond (eg the "stepping stone"). Lovely. And optimistic!
