ZeCoop: My brother and I were together this past weekend and we ended with a big idea that we had started the weekend with... a live mixed song, created from looped tracks on two cassette players. We had a Tascam 488mkII (8-track) and a Tascam 424 (4-track). We each created various looped sounds and filled each track with them, one at a time. He filled up the 4-track and I filled up the 8-track. Each track takes about 12 minutes to record and doing it one at a time took a long time, even when we were recording one on each machine concurrently.
Anyway, this started Sunday night around 8 or 9pm. By the time we had everything figured out, recorded and set up... it was about 4am. We started the song and dove in deep - We ended 15 minutes later. It was really fun and very intense. :)
GuateCoop: (probably isn't up)
Tascam 424 4-track:
Drum loop
Arpeggio piano (with effects)
A synth pattern
Three sections of dialog from 1960's records; first from "When Radio Was King" , then from a special effects record and finally John Kennedy speeches.
Tascam 488mkII 8-track:
Sustained 'C' on guitar with effects
'E' pattern on a Stylophone with effects
'G' pattern on a Yamaha PSS 470 (Cosmic)
'Bb' pattern on a Yamaha PSS 470 (flute)
'A' repeating pattern on Volca Bass
'Am' guitar chord swells
'D' sustained guitar chord
'D/E' sustained open guitar chord

Really awesome stuff, I was listening to a lot of Pink Floyd before FAWM, my dad loved them and he passed away last year. You found some of that magic they mustered here. Great track and super interesting process. :)

Really interesting and very well arranged, with a great range of synths and various rhythmic elements so it doesn't get stuck in any particular decade. Though there are a couple overt PF references they feel more like teasing than homage. If anything it reminds me more of Godspeed You Black Emperor- a sort of found sound collage with an accompanying score. Excellent work!
Favorite section: the transition that comes around 10min

This is gorgeous. So rich and luscious, so many textures and saturation. So much dissonance. A brilliant idea and execution... this is one of those songs that I think "I wish I had written this"!

YES! Super fun and a wild ride. Love the process and I (sometimes) miss the performance aspect of live mixing! Nice work!

I have been refreshing your fawm page more than mine looking for this ever since your FB post. I spent most of the song listening for the different instruments.
Ambient and chaotic.... an interesting combination.... and I thought the 424 running at the same speed for 15 minutes was a minor miracle..... but I might be a bit opinionated on that..... ;)

This creates some unusual states of mind in the listener. What a lot of technology you all bring to the party.

I love stuff like this. It brings to mind pieces from Pink Floyd and The Beatles. I like the section starting at 4:00 the best. The long tones create a moody atmosphere. There's a lot to digest in this. It's all well done and sounds like you had fun.
