Feb 2022 slow-jam blues threeway appalachian-soul
@mikedebenham sent Phil a lyric all the way across the world. Phil and Will got together all the way across town. A songwriting happened. Will Farmer testified. A demo happened.
[Posted twice for each of us to get around the FAWM discomfort with threeways]
Here you are, curled up beside me
and I miss you
Here you are, your breath on my shoulder
and I miss you
Why do I seek shelter before the storm?
Why am I stacking wood while it's still warm?
Why do I miss you before you're gone?
Here we are, smiling for everyone
and I miss you
Here we are, can't think of one thing wrong
and I miss you
I know we've got a good thing going on
I know what life can do
I know what it feels like to lose someone
and I miss you

Love the blues/soul/gospel vibe of this. The slow and relaxed pace leaves a lot of room for the voice and solo guitar to really stretch and soar. The lyrics are heartfelt and poignant without anything too clever twisting our minds, which is just the way it should be with this kind of music. A perfectly balanced arrangement and performance.

Very nice, classic sounding arrangement and delivery.

I'm loving the songcraft here, it's like one of the best bluesiest soulfuliest 1970's songs they ever made. Just I'm so digging these chord changes and turns.
"miss you before you're gone" is such a personal hook line for me. The time I've spent, with people who could give me separation anxiety without leaving the room... actually, the _bed_ .... that sentiment in a pop song never gets old for me.

Oh this is good. What a great blues tune. It has all the right ingredients: great lyrics of longing, a great beat and slow sad melody, fabulous vocal, and some great electric guitar. This makes me long for the Sunday open jam sessions we used to frequent at our local blues club, before it closed down. Oh how I miss it!
@taracraig Feb 2022
Oh yeah! This is smooth! I expected something great from you three, and hot damn did you all nail it.
@leepat Feb 2022
ooh, moody blues vibe at the start.
digging those guitar rakes.
heavenly sounds from all involved.
excellent work lads!
@rshakesp Feb 2022
Super opening, slow steady and strong, great playing and signing all round. Sweet melodies and far from a bog standard blues - its really pleasing to listen to. The more I listen the more I like the vocal which is really soulful. Great job all round.
@princesssavania Feb 2022
Hot damn! This is smooth as hell. I was singing along almost immediately, it’s so catchy! Love the guitar solos. Y’all did amazing!!
@mikedebenham Feb 2022
Bit unfair that Appalachian Soul's hogging all the good singers. Spread the talent around, sheesh.
Proud to be part of this, but Will and Phil did the heavy lifting. I just threw over a couple of ideas to get things started - they took the ball and ran like hell with it.

Such a great groove! I like the questions in one stanza (including the "before you're gone") and the declarative statements in the last stanza.
@oswlek Feb 2022
Sweet! Like any good blues song, it felt like it could have gone on for another 10 minutes if it wanted to. And still felt like it ended too soon. The lyrics are perfectly economical, we know the drill, just give us enough meat to get us gnawing on the bone so we can then suck the sweat marrow of those delicious guitar licks. And delicious they were. Great job all around.

Oops screwed up again, correct comment pending!

This is epic - what a fantastic collab. Love that it was made in real life so to speak - you can hear the difference in the interplay. Your voice suits the lyrics so well, great vibe. Feel like I should be watching a montage on Notting Hill or something…
@axl Feb 2022
My wired brain says thank you, guys, for this soothing bluesy serenade. Could have been 15 minutes longer, for all I care.
@sheslin Feb 2022
Oh this is an awesome collab - and a 3 way at that!. .I am digging the bluesy electric guitar and the vocals are so nicely bluesy as well. This song is so cool. Great lyrical theme too, missing someone before they are gone.
